A Very Good Morning to all of you,
Presently Iam working with a Real State company as an Sr.HR Executive. But as in this company there is no professionalism at all. There is no base of perofrmance appraisal.means there is overall no authority is given to HR Department.
But the thing is the environment of the company is very comfortable for all the employees.and i am very much comfortable here while working. but actually its a "lala type company".so there isno base for the professionalism.but the company is growing faster day by day.
I have completed my 1.6 year in this company. but from the point of view of growth prospectus its not very suitable for me.
but still i am in a great confusion.can you all please help me out what exactly i have to do?????

Hi Monica,
First be clear what exactly are you looking of r in a company, try to check what is that lacking in your present company. If the problem is only the work atmosphere, or org culture, i think you change it being a HR, trying out programms educating people, discussing with people taking their inputs, gradually you might find your job good, dont take hasty decision abt the job, coz any where you go, you remain unsatisfied if you are not clear about yourself....
what say???????? :?:
ALL THE BEST

Dear Monika,

The job satisfaction is important thing what we look at any job. If you believe there is no career growth in present company, there is no meaning in continuing there. BUT, please keep in mind

- How much experience you have overall in HR ( for getting good offer outside )

- Your education is at par with outside market

- Will you get better career growth opportunities in other companies than this company with the experience you have ( you can try and see other opportunities )

If this is your first job and you have total 1.6 years experience, if you are unable to adjust in the next job changing from there is difficult because people think you change jobs frequently.

Also, certain type of companies like Chitfunds, Real Estate, Finance Companies the HR function is restricted only to certain aspects and not much. Their perception of understanding HR is different from others due to their legacy, ownership issues.

My suggestion move out of the Real Estate line and join to core manufacturing/IT where you may experience the real HR function.

These are my suggestions only and please take a right decision being job change is a very sensitive act.

All the Best..

Murali.

Hi Murali,

Thank you so much for replying me. from your reply i really got an idea atleast. and its true that this is my first job after completing my mba. and i have only 1.6 year exp in the field of hr. and my profile is a generalist sort of prifile. i agreed with your all the points except only one that the role of hr or the real functions of hr is limited in a real state compnay.its not like that. we are handling more than 300 employee who are on the company payroll.we are dealing approximately all the areas of hr.

but the thing is that the management has not given the full authority to hr department to take some important some vital deciosion its self.we always have to depend on the management for any of the decision. otherwise there is nothing bad in this company.even i am very much comfortable here and by my heart i dont want to leave the compnay.

now my question is this that what i have to do to make the hr department as a core department in this company.

i think i will have your valuable suggestion.

Hi Monika,
You said Based on this, my observations :
1) Your management seems to good at growing the business.
2) They also seem to be good at creating a good working environment where people are comfortable - you yourself acknowledge this!
I assume from this that attrition is low and payscales are reasonable. Also, JDs and targets are reasonable and not unrealistic.
Could you please explain to the group what you mean by
1) Best Employer
2) Professionalism
3) people are comfortable
4) growth prospects
As Sari said, you should be clear yourself. Once you reply, then we can assist better.
I don't know the size of the company, but why don't you introduce a performance assessment system there? Start with creating JDs. Look at deliverables.
All the best.

Hi Monika.
I am also working in a real estate company in Delhi. When i was reading your posting i felt thats somebody has written about my company.
I can well understand your situation. even i am on the same boat. Completed 1.2 years over here. Quite comfortable here but groth prospects---NIL. So, i would like to suggest that you should first talk to your management about the growth prospects. If you think they are concerned about ur issues and they are willing to do somrthing for the company employees as well as you, then stay here. Or start looking for a new job. At this stage of career one should not bother about the comfort. Rather he/she should be willing to accept new roles and challenges.

Hi Monika

I refer to your problem and the response of others.

I am too in a real estate Company based in Kolkata and having operations across the country. My experience is same but a bit different too.

I would advise, do not change now because

1. You have just started your career and mind that whatever u learnt during your MBA and what u r learning in ur org is different. It is time u should understand ideal HR practices in the books and the actual HR practices in the real life situation.

2. First 3-4 years of learning and staying is important in your career.

With my varied exp in diff industries like consulting, FMCG, manufacturing and real estate I can add that real estate sector compared to the old construction sector is new and with the Promoters in almost all the cases are also new and unaware about the actual importance and functioning of HR dept. They are also busy in growing.

So its our responsibility to sit with them and discuss our plans to improve the present system of HR, the necessary value additions and implementations of several schemes for employee retention and growth.

Have patiance, the situation will improve.

The above is my reading, compiling the recent exp of real estate sector except one/two major and OLD players.

Now the decision is yours.......

Hi Monika
Even I'm in the same kind of situation like yours may be not exactly same but to some extent....In the starting even I felt the same way but I tried & changed things I think now I'm better off....Ya!!! I can't even think of changing coz I've got only few months of experience....My few policies were not accepted in the starting but I kept making the changes in them n kept presenting it again & again after seeing my interest and work, after some time it was accepted & appreciated...So just keep going & don’t get disheartened….

HI Ryan,

I have got your reply and Iam really very thankful to you that you have given your valuable time in giving me a reply.

As you have anylize that my company is growing faster, comfortable working enviroment is there, that is all correct.but one thing is not so much correct that is the attrition rate of employee.I think you must be thinking that because of the enviroment the attrition rate is low, but its not like that.Employee are comfortable bacause there are no as such hard supervision on them. The attitude of the seniors are not so much harsh towards the employees.I would like to explain all those topics what you have raised.

1- Best Employer-:I mean to say by the best employer is that the best employer is one who is much concern about their employee satisfaction also, and not only concentrate upon the money making.

2-Pofessionalism-The professionalism is something is very important and deep matter which creats diginity and respect among the staff. but in company this is totally lacking.like our CFC himself is so unprofessional.he always use to give letter typing to any of the emoloyee who is even not ment for that.while he should give it to the computer operator.and in the same manner there sre so many matters. He use to get done his personal works like ticket booking etc from the company secretary.and the result is that at the time of increment it has been never seen that what actually the employees are working ,whom should given increment and how much it should given .there is no fixed critaria for the performance appraisal.

3-about this point i have already discussed.

4-Growth Prospectus-As I have alraedy told in my previous mails that here in my compnay there is no more importance given to HR Department.even we have no authority for taking the decisions ourselves.

there is no proper delegation of authority.even there no proper hirarchy of management.sometime the hr related decision takes vp operations ,sometime CFC,sometime C.O.O.and sometime Directors.

So we ourselves gets very confused that to whom we have to asked??

Finally I should say there is no clearity of authority.

Hence I dont find here any growth prospects for HR.Even there are so many others points also, what iam unable to write here.

5-: Size of company-Presently we are handlin more than 500 employees

I think i have given you sufficient details.

now can you please advise me.................................

Waiting for your reply

Regards

Monika
