Every employee in an organization has different role. In order to achieve the organizational goals, it is important to appraise the performance of employees in the organization. There are various methods to appraise the same. A very simple and old method is writing confidential reports by a senior on his juniors based on his performance but such methods are unscientific and subjective. The recent and most popular method is to assign Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs) to every employee as per his role requirement. KRAs are assigned and discussed with the employee in advance so that he remains aware that these are the responsibilities which he is supposed to perform. KRAs are reviewed periodically. A decline in the KRAs denote drop in performance and vice versa. Employees are expected to monitor their ratings regularly to judge their performance in an effective manner.

Dear Members
KRA denotes KEY RESULT AREA.
This is used for defining performances targets for the senior management team members and I have heard of American companies generally using this technique to provide measurability of performances, for the top management members so that KRAs can be used for conducting appraisals.
