Hai,

I remember a story which i come across somewhere about around 10 years back, i don't remember whether i heard or i read, which i want to share with you all...

An Organization, who need to fill up a position of art designer has announced the vacancy.

Out of 55 candidates applied, 2 candidates have been shortlisted and have been sent the letters for finalization. The letter asks the candidates to send a good, quality, efficient and innovative design / painting, which would finally decide the candidate to select.

First candidate have designed and sent a beautiful painting, which is very eye-catching...

Second candidate have just sent a letter something written, not containing any sort of painting or design inside.

The management has taken the final decision to select the second candidate........... the offer letter has been issued............ the candidate have joined...

Guess..........

What might have happened...........
Why 2nd candidate have been selected, instead of first......
What would be the moral....

The letter, when viewed differently, showed an artistic form. That may be the reason.Something novel which revealed his creativity

Management wanted an innovative designer to produce though provoking designs for the Firm's clientele and not show pieces to hang on the walls of company, while the second candidate would have revealed a plan of design indicating his idealistic line of action or would have sought detailed outline about the exact requirement of the company, so that he might produce a befitting piece of design for the company without wasting any time in guessing.

The Management selected the second one because of his thinking towards the orgn. mission instead of artistic painting. Management always look at your creativity connected to your work not other. Most probably the second candidate might have mentioned his role to play towards orgn. mission and his thinking towards his work.

He might have written that i could not make design/painting for your organisation till i am working with my present employer it shall be come under code of coduct if I to do so. And that is why he was selected because management always seek the dedicated and trustful candidate for their organisation

Hi,
Art designing is not only sketching and painting the things beutifully as you see them in real life situations. Arranging the words, playing with the words is also a form of art designing. That second candidate did the same thing he just wrote only few lines in the form of letter but arranged the words in such a manner that it might not have been less than an art design.
Thanks!

i think he was selected because the company wanted to groom him to follow the company & its client's path rather than their own.. because people who follow their own path are ambitious and would want alot more from the company.. and if they dont get it they would leave.. the first candidate would be a short term investment..
moral of the story: it takes 2 to tango ;)

In his letter, it has been quoted that,........
"If this letter is being read by you, i hope i have succeeded bcoz........ my designing is so worthy and lively that even the postal department has not recognized that the stamps pasted on this cover are not original and has been designed and painted by me."
So the company has considered the following and selected the candidate -
- Creative thinking
- Innovation
- Skills
- Sportive and so on.......................
Thanks & Regards
