Hi! We are a medium sized enterprise (400 employees) and are looking to start a long term project to revamp our corporate culture to international standards, which we feel we are far from.
So we are on the lookout for consultants with international exposure to help refine our complete HR processes and work with on a long term basis. We have lined up a presentation from Mafoi, but could not really find any other appropriate firm, which is strange as there should definitely be other ones.
Please do suggest a few top level firms who have presence in Mumbai. I do not want to encourage businesses themselves to approach me on this thread, rather I was looking for advice on who are the top rated consultants with international standards. Thanks so much!!!

I have a suggestion here although with different views.

You say that you a medium enterprise with 400 staffs. Then why do you require Ma Foi type organisation? For you, at this stage one man consultant or small consulting firms are sufficient.

The main problem with Indian companies is not lack of talented people but inability of the management to use their talent. There is no empowerment to speak of in Indian companies. No interventions will succeed if you do not empower your employees. To bring a culture of empower no outside help is required.

Coming to my suggestions. Firstly, I can recommend you a firebrand retired person. He is IIT (Chennai) 1969 batch. His both children are well settled and presently works as visiting faculty to one of the management institutes. He handles subjects like SCM, Business Planning, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Global Business Strategy etc. He does not work for money. He accepts assignment only if he is convinced that he can handle it properly.

My second suggestions is a small training firm. Owner of that firm is IIT + IIM. He is 55+ and had been to 10+ countries in the course of his career. He is also firebrand but his charges will be accordingly to market standards.

Please confirm whether you want to go for first or second choice.

Thanks for your insightful reply Dinesh. But I feel that hiring one man consultant will impose a big constraint on what we can derive. I would want to implement world class recruitment practices, research on incentive systems, research on how to do 360 degrees performance surveys. Do you think these guys would be capable of all of this? Of course, passion is very important, but I think I can add enough passion myself. I'd rather want the best resources available, implementation I will do myself.

- Audit current processes.
- Conduct Focus groups/ Surveys with employees to understand what they want.
Once you have an understanding of this , you should be able to revamp your corporate culture.
More that attempting to revamp it to 'International standards' , my personal view is that you should align it to your 'Employees' needs'

None of the above is something new to Indian companies. Our Indian companies have been using assessment centres, 360 degree appraisal etc for a long time.
If you wish to become world-class company, first ask question to yourself - are you best of the company of India? First be best at national level and then think of becoming best at international level.
Anyway, I have recommended the solution keeping in mind size of your company. Services of these companies like Ma Foi could be too costly at this stage. Acceptance or rejection of the solution - call is yours.
