i am working in manufacturing SME company.
i m only and new hr person here. i juat started hr department here
people here working are really old they are with company from 10 to 20yrs.
even peon is working here from the date its start.
my problem is every body work and behave like a boss i dun know how to handle this. although my boss is quite happy with my work
but here everybody asked about my work wht ever assignment given to me
as i m assisting them
wht i do (start buttering them or follow there instructions)
till date i work like as i want i never assist anybody but it creats problem for me becoze behavior changed (employees)
i dun know how to handle

Hi Sarita,
Nothing to worry, create a system / frame guidelines (in discussion with ur head / all heads of ur company) for all the process you handle and do follow it strictly. Don't be submissive whn you talk with ppl, be assertive. Answer me the following questions.
Do you feel, ppl use me for their work?
Do you feel, ppl doesn't listen my words?
Do you feel only the age criteria is the gap?
Lemme knw.....we can do this....

no they wont able to use me for their work becoze i always show them as i m busy
yes this is problem they dun listen
yes age is gap and they are most senior
i joined this company 3month ago they are from 15yrs

I am not mistaken , this firm is a 100 % family controlled business .They might be working here in close proximity to the owner. over a period of time in 10/20 years , hierarchy factors may have got eliminated though physically it may be existing .



All this happens in small scale organisations , workforce composition is usually comprises of older cadre people and it is the tendency of human beings to become accustomed to the prevailing circumstances and acquire the environments traits and become rigid ,inflexible to the change.



In such a scenario , people consider themselves dominant and powerful and do not listen to the new cadre people .Even peon might not be giving you right kind of response and will not be of cooperative nature.



There is only one solution , through which you can overcome out of this .That know the business, its people's stengths & weaknesses insighfully , harness upon whenever you get opportunity , become domitable when need arises.Do not fear , make them understand your importance to the organisation/ to them .You will have to struggle a bit more to establish yourself as a quality worker in their eyes , I am position yourself appropriately to win them.



There will be quarrels/difference of opinion /thoughts which you have to eliminate by showing persistency of efforts in changing them .Intially they will not respond to change , you need to understand their normative orientation , draw plan and then execute .

Hi Sarita,
Practically speaking, u r threat to ur colleagues! The problem is, wat u feel is rgt, vl b wrong for them, sort of generation GAP. Wat u do is, go by individual, read ppl behaviour and their pattern of behaviour, update them with latest news / technologies, all these because of matter of creating ur identity n making them to feel tat u r with them. This process vl take reasonable time, u shud not giv up......Practice, if u hav any queries....do post me........n keep rockin........

u r right i m afraid of my seniorr even i was not able to speak out wht ever they is right but now i am changing my self this has hapn three month ago
now i was trying my level best.even now my boss has started listening my views even applied the same if he likes but
on sum day things goes beyond my control i really got depressed
as i started given offer letters to new employees then receptionist has very different attitute by saying i m increasing cost of company by using paper
i started payment should be in envelop to whom we pay cash with name and amount again she comes out with same reaction.
she said i m wasting .you cant do anything for us(like bonus,gifts)
although i have proposed my boss regarding the gift for Diwali he is ready to to gift voucher
i am confuse wht they really want
i stop deduction amount for coming (relief increased )

Hi Sarita,
You can't satisfy an individual or a group to the fullest of their expectation. As I said, u have to create a system, such tat, whn u follow certain system, ppl vl not question u. Don't go / do things by the way u want, which vl pull u n end up in trouble. why becoz, ppl vl question u n to the extent, thy vl yell u out. So, as a HR, do negotiate with ppl and finalize a system, whr evrybdy vl b feel happy n safe.......lemme knw if u hav any queries.....

ya i agree with Chum first you should develope interpersonal relationship with your seniors. They are all exp people know thats why, it is happening in many companies and you just had a 3 month exp only so you have to wait for some time surely you will see some changes from seniors and also you analyse their attitude it will be useful to mingle with your seniors.

i have started making them feel as i m here to learn from them i asked simple question they feel happy now
as chum u suggest me i am working like a team now
we are planing a get to gather on Diwali i have given the whole responsibility but i involved everybody like menu decide etc i feel change not a lot but its starts working
