A few good subjects would be:

1. Should flexitime be made applicable in your co?

2. What are your co's official hrs, how many do ppl put in..... What is teh cultural impact of employees leaving on time? How often do ppl come in to work on holidays?

3. What are the industry best practices in terms of work life bala - try to procure athe hewitt survey' report - it generally outlines a few & can u adopt some of them inur co?

I think work life balance is going to be the biggets challenge Hr is going to have in india in teh near future - If employees spend over 12-15 hrs in office everyday - how do u think this impact their family life - will they have time for their children - how fast will they drain out, etc.

In teh near future I predict taht along with salary, ppl will start having health, family, personal life etc considerations in selecting a job. I myself know some one who left a job & joined one that pay's 1/4th less than the earlier one because that person was finding a life of 14 hr days, 6 days a week too hectic.

There is lots that u can do.

Hi Padma
Maintaining a balance betwen work life and personal life is called Work Life Balance.
How it is related to HR is:
1. Employee Motivational and productivity levels go up if they are given enough time to spend with their family
2. Performance levels goes up and so organisational development happens
3. The problem of attrition lessens
4. Brings in more good employees thru referrals of current employees
The above can happen, when:
1. Enough leave is given to the employees
2. Family get togethers are organisaed and families are made to identify themselves with the company
3. When appraisal is performance based with clear cut objectives given and achieved
4. Work life is made to be filled with fun
Split the above 4 points further and find out down to earth activities that will help achieve the work life balance
All the very best

Hi Padma

I join my other friend on the subject. Yeah.. he is right in bringing out certain facts about working hrs. which play a predominant role in deciding our priorities. However, I have a few suggestions:

1. What is the structure of the Organisation/Dept.

2. How best the job description is defined to each and every responsible executive.

3.What is the methodology adopted in making one accountable to his/her job.

4. What is the preventive methodology exists to avoid crisis management

5. How concerned mgmt is about the workforce welfare activities

When we an analysis of "Vital few in Useful many", certain activities which gets reflected on the group of people effects badly the work culture thus preventing equal proportions for WLB. It can be any reason as suggested above, to have an evil impact and gets one glued to his workplace until the target is achieved which needs correction in the system. Typical hierarchial structure also reflects badly on one's WLB.

I request the forum members to comments on above and add further if any.

Regards.

hi got ur valid information. can u further suggest me what are the good web sites for getting exclusive information and questionnaire pattern for the same topic
From India, Mumbai
Hi Padma
1. General websites can only give you general practices that might not always be suitable to your organisation. Please go to the grass root of the HR practices in your organisation
2. Classify them as suitable for organisationa and no more suitable for organisation
3. For all those no more suitable for organisation kinds, find out alternatives
4. For all new inventions alone, browse thru search engines and take basic inputs from there
Above all, defining each associate's Job role and quantifiable objective for a given period very clearly is the key to individual as well as organsational success

Work-life balance
Work-life balance to be the greatest challenge for HR.
Raghuram Reddum, director, HR, Motorola India, talks about the cell phone major’s journey in India and HR challenges that the country faces today.
Work-life balance would be the greatest challenge. It will not be limited to the traditional definition of ‘work’ as we know, but it will be a challenge to get a balance for working professionals, school kids, college-goers as well as house wives who spend a major portion of their waking hours working for the family.
Stress levels will be higher....
