Hi suki,
As u said both of them is required for you. Try to Adopt some training plans for that to change the attitude of employees. In that case it can change. Pls do retain them.
when u r preparing for training plan u may do tat also. Try to convince your
boss and also employees. This is my advice for you.
Seniors if am wrong pls do correct me.

Hi suki
A couple of month ago i have faced the same situation and the way we have tackle it i share with you ......... initially as an HR person we tend to give a positive counseling to that person in which we had highlighted the achievements and appreciate the ways he has increase the productivity and after getting adjust to the environment we have given him a couple of feedback in a very influencing perspective and give a brief what is being expected from him considering his strengths and encourage him to work on his strength ............. One thing more you can arrange some behavioral workshop and influence him in a positive way that what he can achieve by just bringing a change in his attitude
One thing i would like to mention is that while giving counseling the counselor's voice tone should not carry any criticism as it may tend to have a negative impact as u told that he is carrying attitude ....

Hi Suki
This is not uncommon. The employee may be egoistic for reasons he is good at work. It is not advisable to get rid of a good hand for his negetive attitude towards other employees. The employee needs councelling and not reprimand. Send him to some behavioural workshop along with some of the employees with whom he has to interact for his daily job. Involve him in some other activities like the office club/ office organised sports and functions. These may bring some positive results and help him to change his attitude towards others.

Hi Suki,
If I where in such situation, I wud tackle with following step.
Step 1 - Counseling: Probe him n try to find out the reason behind his behaviour. If anything as such found, thn its easy to solve.
Evn thn he behavez in same way,
Step 2 - Be Asservite: Tell him, this is goin to be serious n the consequence will be worse.
evn thn....
Step 3 - Push him to his threshold level: Load him with heavy work.
evn thn....
Step 4 - Punish him: Suspension / Termination.
Don't be emotional but practical as HR.

Regarding NEGATIVE ATTITUDE I agreed with Mr. Chum. Do it, in very strict way to tackle that type of persons. Mahesh Ayati

Every employee has certain way of thinking ,try to understand his way of thinking.
What motive he is trying to satisfy with this behaviour.
Written memo for bad behaviour ,can convey the message company is concious and taking action.
Let him know that company is serious about action ,councell him ,provide help through training and other means of improvement.
But after this if there is no satisfacitorily improvement.
Ask him to resign ,find repalcement .
Bad person will spoil company enviorment and there are many equally or more capable candidates out there you can hire.

My company have EAP (Employee Assitance Program) system. EAP team members will counsel if any employee or their immediate family members have any problem. I think every company can follow this because productive employee is a valuable asset for company.
This is my suggestion

you say he is a good worker and giving you results, rare to get now adays, what do you mean by bad background, since when did background come into play for performance, negative attitude, why, one reason may be insecurity, fear of lossing some thing or a sheild to hide some other pressing problem which he is not able to express and there is no one to listen, attitude can be changed with help if he is a worker concious of his good work and the advantage of captialising on it, need to talk to him, don,t lose him for want of experise to handle attitude, plan to a work shop on experiential learning , may be we could help.

Hi Suki,
The same kind of situation was arise in our company as company has recruited one Sr. Accountant he in his first month of joining the company work enthuisatically and tally 3 account of the company but after some time he has shown his real face his attitude was totally chang he started deleting files from System when he was caught he was send to Jail, When it was asked as what was the reason why he has done such kind of activity. He Said he was not satisfy what the work was given to him and he was not satisfy with the practice of the company.
Suki , You need to give him proper counselling so that what is exact the reason for such change in attitude may be found , might possible that he may not be satisfy with any aspect of your company .
