Dear saxena,

ESI contribution period are, asper the act, two, one from April to Sept. and another is from October to March of every accounting year. In this period, we have to file returns in the specified formats for our accuracy of recovery and remittances of ESI contributions to the ESI corporation.

Besides this, the employee in his turn, should avail some benefit out of his contribution to ESI, through us(the employer). For this the ESIC will provide, the employee and his/her family, an identity card with which he/she can avail medical treatement in the specified ESI dispensary for him/her alongwith his/her family. The treatment for some critical cases also available in the ESI Hospitals - on the forwarding note from ESIc Dispensary.

The benefit limit is arrived at by the benefit period to an employee, based on his contribution to ESIC.

The cotribution period and benefit period is

Contribution period

1st April to 30 September

Coresponding benefit period

1st January to 30th June of the year following

Contribution period

1st October to 31st March of the year following

Coresponding benefit period

1st July to 31st December of the calendar year

From India, Mumbai
Somebody please clarify me why I have to wait for next contribution period if I contribute this year?
If my family member or I get a disease and I can't afford treatment on my own in the period when I am not in benefit period, who takes care of us?
What is the logic behind separating contribution and benefit period?

1. Sir,it will be more better if you may indicate clearly what are your doubts and what type of benefits you want to get ?
2. From your above remarks, it appears that you want to know about contribution period and benefit period as per ESIC procedure. In this connection, I may request you to please see Regulation 4 of ESI General Regulations, 1950 which is self-explanatory.
3. I may further inform that under ESI Act, 1948 and rules/regulations framed thereunder, Medical Benefit as well as Temporary Disablement/Permanent Disablement (or dependant benefit in case of death) due to employment injuries starts immediately from the date the person becomes an "employee" under said Act.
4. In case, you have any doubt, I will suggest you to visit your appropriate Branch Office of ESIC and can seek guidance about your eligibility for various benefits under said Act. Please ensure that you must be having your Pehchan Card issued by ESIC as and when you visit said Office.
