Hello
All companies are running under fear psychology recently.Actually Indian companies have never faced actual recession.so forget about the recession.
Now in recent scenario
1) MNC's are focused on getting experienced staff so that they dont have to spend there money in training.
2) Small scale organizations are more focused on fresher as they r not able to pay the high salary to experienced person.

Hi Bhavit,
What you said about MNC's and Small Firms' recruiting strategies is true.
What I'm concerned with is during a slowdown faced by a company, most companies look for layoffs as that is an easy way out to cut costs and improve margins.
However, as an HR manager layoff's is the last step to resort to, right?
So, what would be the retention strategies one can adopt to improve employee performance and also the motivational strategies to keep them pumped up and optimistic rather than being worked up about the recession and possible pink slips.
Please help further.....

Hi

If company is passing through worst condition then there wont be any other way for HR.But if the company has little bit chance over the improvements then they have to follow the given steps.

1) Provide well Established environment to employees so that employee can work freely and can apply all his/her mind.(don't try to apply fear like pink slip and etc...)
2) Take out one test which determines how ur employee is innovative?
3) Inspire all those innovative employees to work in research field. Because we dont know whether they will give some great innovative thing.
4) dont ever try to demoralized your employees.
5) If it is not possible to increase the salary of employees then kindly provide some food coupons, medical allowance and etc.
6)Executives takes help of experienced employee from moving out of critical situations

So these are the few suggestions. If you want more then i will provide you crisis management program conducted by my own consultancy in different multinational organizations.

Hey Bhavit,
Thanx a million for your valuable feedback!
It would be wonderful if you could provide me with your crisis management program as a worst-case scenario program.
If I may ask, which consultancy are you working with?

Dear,
First you need to (I am not a practicing HR manager, by the way) understand that recession cannot be the reason for motivating people and if employees are worth to retain, companies have to make it their routine practice as a strategy. How to do it is another question and that is why HR managers are there.
On the other hand if a company needs to strategize motivating and retaining people, especially in the period of recession, they need to relook at their overall strategy framework right from the beginning.
Those who are practicing it as their original strategy do not need to re-strategize anything, those who do not; they cannot motivate and retain the people either whether in recession or in the boom.
