Dear All,
I need suggestion on the above topic:
Actually I have plan to celebrate birthday party for our employees every last date of the month or last saturday. Also I have plan to send Birthday greeting card to their home on that day.
As per company rule, I have collected the certificate birth date & recorded it.
But most of the employees have real birthday & certificate birthdate are different. In such a case, the party/card , is not much effective.
SoI have plan to collect the real date & keep record it separately ( it is possible in my company, since the strength is less), but few people says the company should not have such practice, as it against to law, etc.
What can we do for this?
whats' wrong on it?

I don't think any employee having any problems of telling their right date of birth. I mean year of birth they may want to hide :D but as far as date of birth is concerned I don't understand why they are saying it is against practice.
Kindly let them know that you want only date of the birth not year :P

Hi Ramaya,
WE have a similar practice, where we celebrate the Birthday of all the employees together on last friday of the month.
I was also facing the same problem, but then I asked all the people to send their Original b'dates for HR records only, they all sent it.
Now we celebrate their B'day and Anniversary both. There is nothing illegal in taking the original b'dates.
DOn't worry and plan ahead.

Hi Ramya,
I don't think so anything is like that because in our office also we are celebrating Employee birthday on real date only and not on official date. So go ahead and do that but the only thing is we celebrate it on same day and instead of sending cards to their house we send E cards on their official ID's. This card goes from HR keeping all other Employees in bcc.

Hi Ramya, We too celebrate birthday in our company what i have done that i have prepared a greetings card and sending it to their id allocated by the company; you can try this also. Regards, Derek

The link Vijaya Lakshimi sent is very useful. That has really helped me and surprises my friends how I keep track on their birthdays and send them an e-card even long after we have lost constant touch. It gives you several reminders days ahead.
Anyway with regard Ramya’s original question I don’t think it is illegal to celebrate the birthday on a different day from the actual birth date. A person might chose a different day due to reason of his own and as long as this is not used in any legal activity and in your case just to greet the person, I really can’t see anything wrong!

As u have mentioned that the number of employees is less in ur organization,u can approach them personally & ask them for their b'dates.There's nothing wrong in that.
In my company,i follow a practice by writting down the person's name (who has his/her b'day)on the respective date in my diary.each morning when i come to office i look into my diary to see if anybody's b'day is there.I send a b'day mail to that person's official email id.& we also personally wish that person by calling him/her up.

Thank you so much for this link...I am somebody who forgets my parents marriage anniversary every year...so remembering b'days are a long way off for me. This site will save me from a lot of thrashing... :wink:
