Hi Frns….
I am facing a problem in my organization. Basically I am working with an ITES company. My boss appoint me as HR executive ovrhre bt he don’t know the actual meaning of HR responsibilities. Recently I joined this org. previously I was working with their competitor. There are more than 20 days has been away of my joining but my boss didn’t give me any signal kind of work not even filing work.
In initial days of my joining he told me to prepare all the documents which required in IT companies which I had prepared within three days. And told him that I have prepared all the documents please check it out but still they didn’t check it. Whenever I go in his cabin to discuss my role and responsibilities, he alwz said right now m busy… will call u later on….
Actually spending 9 hrs in any org without any kind of work is not easy. I am just thinking I m wasting my time and their money too.
Please tell me wht could be the reason for not giving me work. And what I should do in this case.

dont get bored. actually the initial days in any org is for testing the candidates attitude, they call it management toll. you ned to be patient and wait for your boss to give u some job. presently you r being tested for patience and to see how you passs time idle. u need to wait for more and see what happens.
if you are still bored get in to chat to your friends, to start join me on gtalk.

Hi Swati,
In your case what you can do is,
Start collecting the data and do some research work and come up with some suggestions, provide it to your boss. By this way he can get to know about your capability.
Visit HR sites and get updated with the latest trends, this will help you to increase the insight of HR (helpfull for job search).
Sometimes it is very obious that bosses are busy and they dont provide you the proper time, So be your boss and take charge of any activity. If no activities are going on plan for some inhouse activities for employee engagement. (you will get approval for this, as your boss is busy all the time he will give approval fast).
Try this this will surely help you.

Hi Swati,
Did you not clearly ask for your work responsibilities before joining?????
If not, catch hold of your hiring manager and ask him/her.
I think the initial days of joining a new organization is very frustrating, you dont have any idea about the organization and its function nor do bosses have time to explain things to you.
I think you need to take and initiative and understand the organization and its different function. Catch hold of the organization's policy manual, Human Resource Policies, check attrition trend in the co,and see what are the good practices happening there and where you can fill gaps.
You can then go and talk to your boss with an agenda rather than confronting him that you have no job in hand.
I am sure they had a requirement for which they hired you and not just to waste your time and their money.

Firstly you go through ypur company HR Manual, Then try to understand your company rules and regulations and find out how many employees are there in your company and what are the facilities they are getting un your company side. I can understand your problem without work you will be getting bore whenever getting free time go through hrcite pleanty of information your getting. Dont worry about your job because those who have done HR course they are facing difficulties and even though they are not getting HR job your lucky only. Dont thjink about your work you need to involve all the work then you will get confidence and dont leave job what they are saying according to that work.

Dear Swati,
I can easily relate with your condition. I have joined this organization (which is just a few months old) in the same month. I am responsible to frame all the HR Policies, and do all the HR activities here. In just 21 days of my joining this organization, I have been involved in framing the HR Policies, and designing forms, etc. , but Recruitment of the staff is still not done. Our staff strength is just 5 in number, including me. So, at times, I too feel like the way you are feeling, and get a little bored. But what maintains my interest in the organization is my approach to be a self-starter.
Your situation only slightly differs from mine. My boss is always supportive and is all ears to my ideas and also allows me to implement all what I think of doing.
What I would suggest to you is that while doing a little work what your boss tells you, you may keep involved in brushing your knowledge via sites like these, and also take an initiative by self to interact with the staff in your organization, know your organization & its HR policies+practices inside out, learn what concerns your staff has, etc. If you try to find a way, you will definitely not feel bored and enjoy your work too.
Wish you happy working in your new organization. :)
