Dear HR Gurus,

I am working in a software company as HR executive. In my company employees are not satisfied as they are not getting the salary on time infact some of the employees have not got the salary from 2 or 3 months and there are employees in Sales and support deptt. who get the salary on time or people who request for the salary but they also tells other employees that they have received the salary now it create discrimination among the employees whose salary is pending since 2 or 3 months.I have discussed this issue with the management but management is saying as there is shortage of funds so it is not possible to release the salary in one shot so we will give the priority to the person who is requesting for the salary and they are currently not in a position to release the salary on time.My management tells me that this is the challenging task to you and you have to convince the employees and give us suggestion that we will definitely implement.

Now Hr Gurus, I am in a dillema:confused:, that what suggestion to give to the management and how to motivate the employees who are highly dissatisfied. I need you valuable guidance in this regard.

Thanks and regards
Sonia

According to me if your company is facing problem in funds they cannot expect employees to wait for their salary for 2-3 months....
No employee will be ready to understand this criticality of the situation as the situation in their house will be more critical than this....
Ask your management to disburse at least 50% of the salary to every employee...One should get the money to manage their homes....

Dear Mr. Ravi,
I need the suggestion, not a comment that How we paople get the HR job, if you dont have any suggestion then kindly dont comment, just put yourself into my shoes and then try to analyse the situation as I am an Hr not a management. I can only fight for my employees salary and it is upto the management whether they disburse the salary or not.
I need your guidence, if you were there in my situation then what would you do?? Infact at this time I dont understand what suggetion should I give to Management and what tools should I use to motivate employee if their basic need ( MONEY ) are not met on time.

Hi Sonia,

Forget about words like motivating , engaging etc for employees, these are stylish wants when the basic needs are fulfilled.

You have to take a tough stand with the management:

A Company must pay the employees in 7 working days after a month is complete, as per some govt. act. If any employee files a case then company will be doomed forever. An employee works to get salary at the end of the month, not for motivation. The company infact does not need an HR person if it is not respecting the basic employment requirement. So put up a straight and bold case up in front of the management for basic right of employees that is salaries in time. If company does not have enough funds ask management to take half/delayed salary but employees must be paid on time.

In fact this is your first and foremost duty being HR person,if this problem can be addressed effectively then other things you can take up later on. Be prepared to lose your job also. So you need to be strongly assertive and persistent on this issue.

It will not help your career too if you work in such company where basic right is considered a privelege.

Thanks

Please arrange to pay employee at least 50% instead of paying few employees 100%. Due to liquidity problem delay in salary payment can be understood but that shouldnot be discriminated on job basis as important because every employee has to pay their monthly bills.
Convince management to pay 50% salary to all employee until financial position restored.

I agree with Parthasarthi. Something is better than nothing. So, as the case is, sales people are directly involved in bringing revenues, so the management is liable to pay them first. But what u can suggest the management is to release at least a considerable percentage to the employees who have not got anything for the last few months.
From your end, there is nothing u can do to "MOTIVATE" these people. but u can counsel them to bear the hard times in your own way.
On the other hand, you have to take a hard stand in front of the management. You have to act as employee's representative and device a middle path.

Hi Sonia,
First up all your company doing unlawful activity, if anyone sue against your management then only they will realize how bad it is. kindly organise common meeting with all employees tell them the real fact, anyhow they wont consider this meeting because everyone need their salary no one will work free of cost. As a hr you must know the employees needs. So be bold and think employees point of you and give your valuable suggestion to your management.
my request is dont give any personal comment here.

Hi Sonia,
There's nothing to hide with the employees, as salary payment is a must for all the companies. i agree with many here who has suggested you to talk to management for @least 50% pay. its a job of a HR to support the staff than the management. you should be assertive b/w the two ends.

Dear Sonia,

I can understand your situation as i have also gone through the same phase once.

according to me :

1. Identify & priorities employees who hvnt got salaries since long

2. As mentioned in other comments try to convince ur management to release some percentage of the salaries atleast of those who are on ur priority list.

3. Meanwhile as u r the only person who bridges between employees & management, employees will definetly come to u with their financial prob. , here u have to be patient n listen to every once and instead of trying to motivate them u have to try to console them but dnt give them false promises about dates of salry release etc other wise they will loose trust on u too.

4. please inform ur management that this could create legal issues so they have to release some ammount of salaries.

5. Some employees may give resignations so be ready for that as well, and communicate this to ur management that company could loose some good employees because of this issue.

See their is nothing in ur hands so u could just try to convince ur management n console ur employees... Motivating is out of question... coz at the end people work for money nothing else

I agree with Mr Ravi
Sonia,
motivation.......are you joking ??????????
you can work without salary?
Your management can work stopping thier salary for 2/3 months?
your company have no any rules/policy ??
There are no any fund problem for your management people or other department.......
then...
only one solution tell your management team ,they give their resign.....bcoz they are are not capable....
