Hi there,
I can't find information regarding suspending an employee. The subject is not addressed in our Employee Standing Orders.
The employee is workmen he is always talking to our receptionist after finishing his first shift he stay with her until receptionist finish her general shift duty. Can we suspend him for 1-3 days? He would be given written notice for the suspension and actions to be taken if the offense is repeated.
Any help would be appreciated!!!

Counsel that person first and let him know that action will be taken if he continues doing so.
Immediate suspension with no warning will make things look funny. I mean he would go around saying that you suspended him becos he spoke to the receptionist.
Always think of consequenses before you do something.

Dear Ash,
Ash, you are bias in reading this subject. becasue you find only fault with worker who is male and not with receptionist who is female.
But if both of them are doing same time wasting during working hours then we must war both of them not only workmen but also warn to receptionist.
Please pardon me, if I am wrong in reading intention of this post. I alwys appreciate your posting and responses but this time you miss judged the both employees at fault.

dear parthoo
there are two types of suspension
1.suspension pending enquiry--when some one has done misconduct and
charges are very serious, his presence in company will hamper enquiry.than management suspend him to conuct fair and impartial enquiry.
2.supension as punishment-when individual has done any misconduct and
charges are proved against him during enquiry ,he can be suspended as a punishment max 4 days and during this period he will not get any payment whereas in suspenison pending enquiry he will get 50% salary.
in your case he can not be suspended.
you call him personnaly and give him pesonnel dept dose and warn him that he should not stand here unnecessorily or issue him warnning for the same.
if he does not improve than start discilinary proceedings against him.

Dear Abraham,
You are not wrong. I never realized this part :-)
But I guess, Partho should actually spend time in finding the actual reason and then try solutions to avoide occurence of the same. A mere suspension may not help.
But I really appreciate your thoughts. I missed that point of view too. Yes - both must be counseled. Not just the male.

Dear Ravi,
You are right, they are love birds and having afairs this is not big issue in Australia in any of the offices but my problem is not affair but time wasting and his overstaying in office where he is not suppose to be after working hours.
In Australia, people donot care for job positions, people takecare of their bills by themself therfore test dosenot matter even sweeper may fell in love with Managing Ditrector of one day or week and next month he may be found in affair saleswomen.
Nothing surprising here.

Dear Partho,

Don’t suspend employee just terminate him because he always talking with your receptionist. O Man!! What is the problem if he always talking with your receptionist – is she (receptionist) complaint regarding this or somebody else interested in her?.

You can take action regarding this only if :-
1) Receptionist complains against him.
2) Spoil the office decorum
3) Looking too much awkward (what they behave in reception)
4) Received complain form senor management

Regarding this you much speak with your receptionist and discuss about the awkwardness. Have views, search out the root cause and if required then issue warning letter to both of them to realize.

Don’t do partiality – always remember – it takes two hands to clap.

Dear Ravi,
First of all you have to immigarate to australia through several test and procedure that is available on Australia Embassy. Then you have to do some course like advance studies here to become preferable in employment because Indian Certification has limited scope most of employer prefer australian certification so this is better.
