Hi Friends,
Can anybody please guide me as to how to become an absolutely efficient and indispensable Executive assistant to the Chaiman / CEO?
Lately I am working as an EA to the CEO and he does not communicate with me with regards to his appointments, travel and meeting...but wants me to plan his calendar one month in advance. Can anybody pls advise as to how to manage a CEO's calendar....I am confused :-? As far as i knew, It is supposed to be in co-ordination with the CEO...

of course it is ur duty to coordinate with ur boss if he don't let u know his schedule in advance. u have to ask him about this so that he realize not only about his lacking but of course your presence of mind and how u r dutiful and responsible towards ur job.

Thanks a ton Amit...But unfortunately, I have given up on the role of EA/Secretary. My boss turned out to be a total uncommunicative gentleman..he would require a mind reader than an EA..=)
I am into a more respectable job now...i.e. a Medical Transcriptionist....with a lot of peace of mind, no running errands for any hot and short tempered human souls and no more humiliation...;D
However, thanks a lot for ur reply...Tc.. Ta!

@nath .piu: You have to be really lucky in life with whom you get as your Boss!...else Career will go for a Toss! Was an ES myself to a VPHR of a famous Hospitality Group and had some the worst nightmares of my life even after 100% performance which was vindicated by all others in the Dept. Luckily got a break in HR and wish I never have to be an ES again...Some Bosses think ES & EA's as Educated Office Boys/Peons/Cleaners & Sweepers rather than Employees just like Themselves.

My Dear Friend

The desparation from your side to become efficient and indispensable Executive Assistant to the Chaiman / CEO.

Have you noticed the spelling mistake in Chaiman ?

Its not a matter of eagerness or urge and a person can become as indispensable and efficient. But it needs calmness, caution, maturity, cool head - ( i am sorry to say right now - you are not cool headed from the way you had asked for advice to become efficient and indispensable.

Dear Nath,

While planning your CEO or Chairmans tours and meetings, you have to think about weather, environment, climate, infra-structure, Season, availability of needs of your Boss, his likings and non-likings, reading his mind, reading his indicative body language, spoken words and un-spoken expectations.

No job gives you 100 % guarantee or satisfaction - but there is always a scope for improvement on your side. we have to learn from experience and mistakes - both are important. Not to undermine youe efforts that you must have taken, slogged and exerted to your limits, but you had let go the opportunity that has come your way to prove and improve yourself.

Things unfold in life - some times with your efforts and some times with your destiny - both taken together - your self is "made".

I was in a almost similar role where intially it felt like the sky will fall on me.but with time - realised that all are human beings and sincerity and hard work always pays - some times late - sometimes too late - some times doesnt pay at all - but to every act and efforts of yours -there always is a silent spectator - at least yourself - to judge and let you have a good sleep.

Boy, Have patience and never ever give up the efforts. if you are thinking your current job is exactly what you wanted from life - you are either in your slumber sleep or do not want to accept the reality. no jobin the world is crafted for the specific employee.

And thats why so many of us are employed - some times in the jobs that we like and some times in the jobs - that dont like us.

i too agree your point. though i have been working in other position basically i m interested in EA position. As u have mentioned EA should understand their boss wants on their own bec boss need EA support to run with out any hurdles. like what children expect from their caretaker or guardian or parents.
