Dear Asha,
Asking for bank statement is seems to be very good option with you & I don't think that your hesitations is right on their request not to ask their hr members. In my point of view you can ask their previous HR - Members, to confirm everything, but remember one thing that it should be very confidential. So, you may discuss with your boss, since he is very sincere on the subject, as you mention in your message. And asha, every HR-Personnel is doing the same, nothing wrong in thins, as it has an impact on your well esteemed Organisation. Where your Organisation interest is hampering by anyone request and decision, in my view of point this not is correct.
After all you are there to deal with situation and hope you are most capable to do the things very tactfully.
Have a very nice day

Many of the members had given their views they all are really good. What I have observed that there is one point missing which can become the key to unlock your doubts. You can call to his home number and if his wife pick up the phone then say that you have been calling from such & such bank and their landline/mobile number has got award of having loan of rs 5 lacks without any interest and any hidden cost. To forward the loan process following information are required i.e date of birth ,family members details, loan availed from any bank and then ask at the end present salary. In this way you will be able to get correct salary details.
All the best !

Dear Mahesh,
Thanks for your views..but the problem with textiles/garments industry is that - they receive half salary on account and remaining in black.. so, checking bank statements will not help us..because they can anytime claim that they are getting more.

Dear Aah Mathew

1. First try to keep up your KRA, KPI - if your boss ask for ref check pls do as per format and submit to your boss. Ultimate decision is with your boss. So dont scratch your head more.

2. In India HR and Company Mgt has to be matuared. Every company and position have a pay package. There are foolish question being asked in interview what you expect.. one has a budget to pay why to ask and do cross verify and what you are going to achieve.. Dont be so rigid.

3. Please have a complete questionare with case studies with the candidate wherein you can evaluate the performance , merits, strength and weakness.

4. As per my experience no employee will quit to say i am joining XX company and they are going to pay XX salary because Boss are not matuared .. and they are scared because generally people wont talk good about people ..

5. Even after all ref check, qualification check , if an employee not performs it will come to the head of hr recruiting person.. so need to handle this tactfully

Hi Ash,
Few things you can check on - Talk the issue clearly to ur boss! Tomorrow there are lot of chances that he will point out on u for improper check. so ask him what can be done...
Also, though cranky make someone call any of the member, like a consultant with a similar job opportunity else where and see what they have to say,
or try getting the number of any other member in the organization and talk on the opening for them and slowly gauge out the salary offered in their firm.
Therez nothing to worry so much on this... as someone above mentioned, if ur boss is ok with it, u can relax.... if u wanna do justice to ur work then try the above steps am sure u will find a way out...
All the best :)

Regarding Salary Verification, you can check their Bank Statements and also ask for their I.T.Return copy for the previous years, say 2 years atleast. This would give the details.
But most medium sized companies never entertain their staffs in good manner and want all possessive of them and neither give them good salary but also not allow them to look for other opportunities. The better way is to include a clause in their appointment letter that they would be on probation for 6 months and is subject extension for verification for their performance. This will make the new recruits to be frank in their performance and also make their earlier creditials justifiable.
In the latter part of their performance the beans will slip as to what they did in their earlier company, when a conference or some seminar is arranged and they are asked to speak about their experience in the past.
