Yeah thanks a lot.
There is no question of leaves. I have refused to work on weekends and after hours citing personal reasons.
I am convinced that these are not the grounds to hold a relieving letter.
I think my department head will help me to get relieved after adjusting my unclaimed PLs.
It is a loss of a company to ask employee to serve full notice period when he is mentally not present.
Cheers!

Let the separating employee feel confortable & happy, at the time of separation - , about the company and
its HR policies.
In my view, company should not hold his relieving letter, on any ground, whatsoever nature, unless
he is involved in any malpractices, misconduct or moral turpitude.
Thanks

I hope u r aware about the fact if your manager accept the resignation and wants you to serve full notice period and you left before completion of the same. Then, company will put reason as voluntary absconding. Which can become issue in long term if you join new company.

Dear Brahmagupta,
All said and done, it's good and desirable for both of you to adopt the middle path. Having put up many years of service in this co.it's expected of you to leave amicably, part as friends. Afterall they would require that you should work for that extra hours as you were doing just prior to your notice. If they mind they can hold on to your relieving letter leave alone the legal issues and what is correct or not correct . It they mind they can always frustrate you by all means. Ultimately you will be the sufferer, this co. by any stretch of imagination not going to face insurmountable losses due to your exit. It's always possible to fill the vacuum created with some one else. Better try to satisfy to the extent required and depart with a clean chit by striking a balance, there is no meaning being adamant at this stage.
