Hi Aarti,
Its depends on company to company policy... You can implement attendance policy and mostly company;s are give 10 to 15 minutes grace time for the employees three time in a month.. anyway... its according to law... & by law there is no one have authority to deducted your salary without any warning or intimation latter...
but as a employee, every one should not break rules or policy...

Hi,
I just joined this conversation about late coming and deductions of half day salary.
In my office the same has been implemented very recently and dedicated my two months back salary due to late- coming. Due to which the salary we received for the month is even less then 50 percentage of monthly income.
I have small kid less than 2 years old. I put him in creche which open at 9:30 itself and is the closest to my home and safe as well. While my office timing are 9:30 to 5:30, so I always reach office by 10:15 or so due to this reason.
My office doesn't have any creche facility and is located in outskirts of city where even no proper residential complex is established.
So being a helpless mother, I have no choice but to reach office late. In terms of work assignments the task was always completed on time and even during odd hours I use to work for my office over phone.
I submitted a request letter for the relaxation on timing due to no creche facility in office also other personal reasons, in return my employer have started creating harsh environment around for me.
While at the same time they allowed few others employees to come late in office and no deduction on their salary too. We also tried to ask why such discrimination among the employee, but instead of giving the reply, they are trying to put me in more difficult situations.
Reply please what should I do.

Dear Aarti, Three times late coming up to 10 minutes is permitted in most of the organisations as any misconduct above three times considered as habitual.

Hi. I joined this discussion pretty late. I believe a company should bother more about work completion, client handling and target meeting. An organisation that micro-manages employees levy heavy penalties on late coming. On the contrary, expecting the employees to sit extra and contribute late sittings voluntarily are toxic environments that should be avoided. There is no use affecting your mental stress and hormones over such an organisation. If you know, you are a sincere worker and unless you are helpless to work in the same organisation, look elsewhere, and find a better employer who focuses and appreciates your work. Change your location if that helps you find better jobs. Life is too short to spend cribbing about double deductions and penalties.

Dear All

Greetings

We have the following rules and regulations in our organisation having a total strength of 350+ employees.

Rules for Regular and habitual Late Comer and/or early Goers

Over period of time, management have observed that employees in large numbers are misusing the leniency of the management towards employees and have developed habit of either coming late or going early or going in between duty hours. This results in delay in completion of work and missing of targeted dead lines for completion of assigned work. This has also resulted in increasing indiscipline amongst the staff member.

Therefore the company has installed a Biometric Face Attendance Recorder. This machine will read the face of the employee standing in front of it, compare the same with the already stored face in the machine and record his/her attendance with time of arrival in the premises and time of leaving the premises.

Every employee is required to work for minimum of 54 hours per week along with lunch break with regular and timely arrival and departure from office.

In order to restore the original work culture of SMPL the following rules of attendance have been made -

1. The attendance recorded in the Biometric Face Attendance Recorder shall be base for calculating salary and wages earned by a particular employee for a particular month. Therefore each and every employee has to use the Biometric Face Attendance Recorder for recording his time of arrival-in and departure-from the office with out any choice of his own.

2. Incase, the Biometric Face Attendance Recorder is out of order and/or out of service due to any reason whatsoever, the procedure of signing manually along with time of arrival and departure shall have to be used.

3. Incase of not using the Biometric Face Attendance Recorder by any employee on any particular date both time i.e. on arrival in office and departure from office, it shall be presumed that he has not come to office at all and s/he shall be treated and marked as complete absent without leave.

4. Incase of using the Biometric Face Attendance Recorder by any employee on any particular date for only one time either at the time of arrival in the office and/or at the time of departure from the office, it shall be presumed that he has come to office but has left the office without doing any work in the office and s/he shall be treated as absent.

5. Incase, if any employee has come late or left early by up to and inclusive of 15 minutes period for three occasions per calendar month, s/he shall be marked half day leave.

6. Incase, if any employee has come late or left early by more than 15 minutes up to and inclusive of 30 minutes period for three occasions per calendar month, s/he shall be marked one day leave.

7. Incase, if any employee has come late or left early by more than 30 minutes period on any occasion, s/he shall be marked half day leave for that day.

8. Incase, if any employee has come late or left early or left in between and the total number of hours per week does not totaled 54 hours for that week, s/he shall be marked half day leave for every 2 hours of less work done.

9. Incase, if three half days leaves are marked in any month due to late arrival and/or early departure, the particular employee shall be put under watch and shall be monitored.

10. Regular and punctual attendance shall have a bearing on results and that will finally have a bearing on annual increment and also on deciding the quantum of performance bonus payable to any employee.

11. The management has full rights to make modifications/ alterations/substitutions to any of the above provisions.

12. This arrangement comes in to force with immediate effect.

13. Every employee has to sign this circular as a token of having read this very carefully and understood the same completely.

The intention of above is to cultivate discipline amongst working staff so as to maintain the scheduled timely completion of work assigned by the customers,

We are in to service sector that compel us to maintained pre notified time schedule to remain afloat in the competitive market.

Suggestions are always welcome from any corner.

Dear Members,
There is no rule or law which permits laxity in working hours.
Yes, local rules have been made organizations to condone late coming and are not same across the board.
So, there is noting right or wrong in permitting grace time to come to work place
