Hi Pooja,
IR and HR both are equally weighed , but to be an IR expert one need to have lot's of guts and knowledge to face the issues and resolve them timely. Very few people will have an opportunity to be in IR Expert. An IR experts commands on the activities which plays a very important role in building the company/business for smooth and peaceful running, non-adhering of compliance are more dangerous which might lead to closing down of the company /lockouts/other problems which might turn out to be disastrous to the company if not handled properly.
HR specialist are the mostly available unlike IR expert, There is no hard and fast rule that IR report to HR. It is your capability and smartness.
Last but not least "DO WHAT YOU ENJOY THE MOST" and follow your dreams.

Dear Pooja,

Who told you that all Personnel & ADM. people reports to HR Guys, You must be knowing that there was no existence of HR in early 90s & we can say that HR is a new born baby of Personnel & IR, the only difference is of using new terminology of HR.

I know many VP's & Presidents who are working as a head HR & ADM responsible for both HR & Personnel & if you are getting the opportunity to get the expereience of IR & Personnel you should not leave this.

Because when you will step towards Sr. Management position you will require the experinece of Personnel & IR & HR both.

My suggestion to you is that first you analyze your job profile offered by the company and see the following in that, this will help you in enhancing your knowledge as well as enrich your Resume for further openings of Mix profile: -

1. Legal Compliances

2. Liasioning with Govt. Officials.

3 Handling Day to Day IR issues

4. Handling the Disciplinary Matters

5. Handling the Court Cases

6. Union Handling

7. Welfare

These are the cream areas of Personnel & Ir function. No doubt IR & Legal is a challenging wrok but exposure towards to Sr. Mgt. is great as well as growth also good.

I will not suggest your for the profile of Salary & Wage Asministration & Joining Formulaties & Time Keeping related jobs

As far as the Female in IR & Personnel is concern many girls are working on a responsible positions of IR & PERS. so no need to worry about that.

Even we are also recruiting the Girls having exposure in Personnel & IR.

If you find any problem and more clarification you can contact me.

Regards,

Bhaskar Dharival

Madam,

Regarding your concern/choice about handling Personnel & compliance issues in an Organisation, I with my experience of many years in the said field can tell you that first you need to have guts or capacity to bear tension (stress & strains) because compliance matters are time bound, it invites adverse action/reports from Govt. Offices if not complied timely & accurately. The labour laws are very old and too many, they are outdated and at variance with the modern practices & procedures , compliances can never be upto mark and almost all the labour authorites drive advantage out of such scenario. But still one has to take the responsibility to handle these complex matters and that makes him/her important in the Organistion as it is he or she who acts as a bridge between the Organisation and the Govt. Authorites. So judge your ability and capability to handle the task and responsiveness of your superiors in cooperating with you in your decision making, especially with reference to dealing with Govt. authorities.

Hi Pooja,
Surely HR Is better than Personnel as the Trend is not Industrial Growth But days of the BPO, IT etc.
Personnel may follow outdated process and procedures which may be obslete more applicable for labour certainly...Depends on if you want to be following a traditional patter of work or Follow the current trends.
Thankyou
Subha
