In case if your company does not want the employees/visitors to use mobile phone in office premises you can have locker system. Most of the IT/Automobile/Software companies do it.

Dear member
If you are bothered only about waste of time, it is not worth while to install jammers in the office as it will not only cause inconvenience to you but may also hamper the functioning of mobiles of other establishments / office in the vicinity and you may land up in trouble. Also if a person is addicted to mobile he/she can still use the land lines available in the office and do the same. Then you may have to install software to check the usage of landline and increase the administrative cost.
Further , as suggested by one of the members , the best is to give lockers to the employees where they can keep their mobiles and collect it during breaks or while going home.
It is most important that before you take any such decision, communicate to all the employees formally and in advance. Weigh all the pros and cons and arrive at a decision.

Dear Mr.Verma,
Better using Jammers you can keep rule to all employee to switch off their mobiles in office premises, they can use their mobiles in lunch time or Going Home time. If you can provide a box to them then keep their mobile in box and they can work.

I wonder, in this information age, where Tabs & smarphones are said to increase efficiency of employees, why we need to think about installing jammers in work places.

I fully understand, in high security work places like defence establishments, ISRO, R & D labs, etc. jammers are used, but what about a factory making cars ? what kind of confidential information can possiblly go out thru' use of mobile phones, which cannot go out thru' email ? And what happens in case of any emergencies at home or work ? how the otuside agencies, vendors, or even our own family members get connected to us, if not on mobile ?

In factories, i.e. shop floors, where the workmen actually undertake production, cell phones are prohibited in most of companies, as it a safety requirement. However, in offices, i dont think it is a feasbile idea to bar mobile usage by jammers & cut-off people from outside world, in the guise of productivity or security. I have not come across any empirical evidence against usage of mobiles in office space.

Hi
As Mr. Narayanan suggested, you could install a cupboard in the reception with token system to collect / return the mobile phones of both employees and visitors (if necessary). That will be the least expensive and simple solution. Also, are jammers available off the shelf, say in an electronic store / online?

Dear ,
Apart of telecommunication laws and other related acts, installing jammers in company premises for will effect all mobile phones in certain period, It is all about top management decision why they opted for such action.
As company has it soul rights reserved with directors for most of the business aspects and activities.
If company has applied such thing in system then as an employee any one cant oppose such action, yes for emergency conditions or situations there must be some fixed number where the family, relatives can connect easily via extensions can connect to the desired person or employee,as after installing jammers no communications can be made via voice or text,Management will definitely think and consider this point.
