Yes, confidence is really important but Over Confidence and attitude such like depicting in the statement can be a cause of losing the opportunity or can make recruiter feel that the candidate is an arrogant person.

"Question itself depicting attitude" but don’t forget the sense of questioning by Recruiter by asking "Why should I hire you" recruiter wanna know the interest of a Candidate in the job or in the company/company business and the sense/knowledge of a work.

I agree with Charles J’s definition and the statement from the Recruiter point of view. What a candidate can do towards the achievement and goals of the company is the main motive behind this question.

What and why company profile does matter for a candidate and why candidate prefer to have knowledge about company before going for an Interview because of Interest, knowledge of work and relevant function which are really important for one’s career.

Suppose you have asked a candidate for a face to face interview after screening of his/her resume and telephonic round, later you found by his/her little knowledge for a job/position, required interest and wrong attitude which you can’t discover while telephonic interviews, you'll never hire this one.

I agree with Spectrain’s statement “You should hire me if you are committed to employing someone who can make an amazing contribution to your business” this is in right sense and with a right attitude and confidence for showing the interest, knowledge and experience that one might have. Also by this statement one is offering a chance to Recruiter for discover the right attribute in the candidate nothing like depicting in “definitely miss a good employee”

Such questions are asked by the interviewer merely to test the communication skills, confidence, honesty, and determination to express oneself. It by no means decides the final selection. So cheer up guys, an interview is after all to grill a candidate and check how he answers all sorts of questions, isn't it ?

It is a very common question being asked by interviewers. Nobody will appoint you unless you are benefited to the company. Therefore, I prefer to say that I should be hired because "Myself is a Benefit to the Company" and not simply a CTC (Cost to Company)

I conduct many recruitment interviews for clients. People come to me following a pre-screening interview with an agent, followed by a telephone interview, they then come into the organisation for a presentation in which they find out a lot about the organisation and finally the face to face interview. It is amazing how many people are passed through to this third stage and yet they fail. the failure rate is 40% - why? Some did not write their own CV, they got someone else to do it and were unable to expand upon the experience they claim during the interview, and some could not answer the exact same questions asked in the telephone interview we suspect someone else did the telephone interview for them. So there is a problem with authenticity. We can all make ourselves look good on paper, sadly less than 60% live up to the picture they painted on the CV.

If after going through the recruitment process, the presentation and spending time at a clients site, the candidate could not answer the question "why should I hire you". I would be concerned about their ability to make use of all of the information they had been given, I would also have concerns about their ability to influence me, or the organisations customers.

I guess some of the comments here explain why I am constantly amazed at the number of people on this site who have obtained jobs for which they know absolutely nothing about!! It is obvious that they were not hired on the basis of their skills, experience and knowledge. Not only does this hurt the company and the staff who rely on getting proper HR services, but also the person themselves being put into a position they cannot handle and that can result in untold stress, destroy self esteem and self confidence and lead to many other problems.

I agree with you Mr. John and the statement made by Spectrain "Some did not write their own CV, they got someone else to do it" absolutely right.

Peoples are just busy in doing this only and not spending time to make their own CV though making a CV/Resume is also an ART, they just Google, get the formats and ready CVs from there and made the changes accordingly. Thats it!

People think it is the easiest way to write RESUME or to impress the interviewer/recruiters but, they never realise this problem of authenticity taking them on wrong way before getting failed the face to face interview. And were not hired on the basis of their skills, experience and knowledge which is the real thing and matters a lot. And no one can get this by making required changes or adding their own details in others CV.

u may find many candidates with more exp, in ur quoted salary, smart....but those r the things learn by experience,,but my self born with management skills and then in my real time exp i sharpened those skills according to the present situations..

This is the question which gives opportunity to the candidate to have the ball in their own court. A candidate can play and grab it as much as they can.
Answer for your question can be -
1) Tell your all strengths, skills, thoughts you posses related to the position applied.
2) Highlight any of your achievement of your school, college which shows any of the abilities required in that particular field.
3) Reflect the urge of the work you want to do and which relates to the position.
4) Be proactive and confident enough to put forward your thoughts infront on the edge.
I wish these answers will help you out as it also helped me to get the kind of job I was looking for.
