Please understand that certain things can't be controlled by human beings. May i ask you a question..

--Can you predict your future.........?
--Do you know, whats going to happen in the next second?
--Can you guarantee anything which you want to accomplish(100%) in your life, even if you plan with 101% perfection
--Is there any rule where you can BAR HR similar to THE BAN APPLICABLE FOR LAWYERS for violating RULES & REGULATIONS...? If yes, then you can PUNISH HR.......but why do you want to punish HR, why cant you take action against TOP MANAGEMENT who is RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THINGS DONE THROUGH HR????????

What will you do, if you come to know, its the company who cheated him? Now, do you want to pay money to someone, to blast the whole company because HR IS A PART OF THE COMPANY AND I AM SURE TOP MANAGEMENT KNOWS EVERYTHING...HENCEFORTH PUNISHMENT FOR ALL MEMBERS OF COMPANY? ......hope this will make you happy and happy and happy

I strongly suggest that, If things are not in order, he should look for better job. To avoid such things recurring in the nearest future, he has all rights to speak the facts about his current employer while negotiating with his future interviewer/employer.

LETS CONSIDER BOTH NEGATIVE(sad/hardship) AND POSITIVE(happy/blessed) SIDE OF OUR LIFE..

1) If i was in your friends place, i would have thank ALMIGHTY "for giving me something better than nothing" because i haven't lost my job and i was only asked to renegotiate for lesser salary, may be for few months until things gets better.

2) I even would have supported management for setting things right......where i would have been one of the luckiest members for helping my company grow....I am sure, by the grace of ALMIGHTY, i would have been paid more than i was offered earlier.....i mean to say, TOP MANAGEMENT WOULD HAVE PAID ME HIGHER FOR MY SINCERE EFFORTS AS I WAS STUBBORN/RIGID NOR I WANTED TO OFFER MY FIXED SERVICES FOR THE FIXED SALARY.......

Look at the options, how ALMIGHTY can change your FATE..Its all about POSITIVE BELIEF...HOPE......we just can't take anything for granted...........ITS OUR JOB TO WORK HARD and ONLY ALMIGHTY HAS POWERS TO BLESS US ALL..

I am habitual of relating everything to ALMIGHTY......i am quite happy with ALMIGHTY and i thank him all the time for whatever he had blessed me with......

Please let me know what else i can write when i am just an ordinary human being like you all........

First of all I am sorry for your friend. The scene that you explained is not very common in a real professional environment. Of course their demand for his relocation from Delhi to Chandigarh cannot be accused, but slashing down the offered salary within such a short time obviously shows poor management and poor employee relations of the organization. Although the mistake is from the management, being an employee he has to remain a loser until and unless he has the required experience and skills to grab a better opportunity if letting the existing one go.

same thing happen to one of my friend. he got a offer from a compnay and resigned from his job. after reaching there he those people asked to sign a bond. but he already enquired about this at the time of HR round. So he was in problem as he resigned from his present job.. but after 5 days he got another call for an interview in a good MNC. and now he is working there.
so hope the same for your friend....surely he will get some good option.......nd it is better not to compromise as it will create problem afterword if he is continuing with the same compney just wait for a good chance .......

This was indeed a bad experience for your friend. In this case I can suggest that before moving to some other organisation specially in some other city it is very important to get proper information of the background of the organisation, in this case I can see the following possible mistakes done by:
1. The Candidate: who did not study the background of the organisation and took the decision to move.
2. The HR department: of the aforesaid organisation for not being transperent to the candidate.
3. The management of the company:for unappropriate and incomplete study of the project undertaken, and poor coordination.
Your friend might have suffered a lot,wishing him better luck for next time.

I don't want to take sides here, but the company is not performing like it should. You would probably be surprised to know that this is quite a common practice in the US (I saw over a couple of dozen such cases out there, with people I knew very well!). Unfortunately, company policies often allow such actions to be substantiated.

It certainly affects the employee and I think, the 'career' mode switches to the 'coasting' mode, where the employee needs to quickly switch jobs (provided he finds one).

Remember, business plans are often dynamic and this needs to be factored in at all times. New market information can give skewed results. As management consultants, we often advise companies to 'trim' organizational costs. How they ultimately do it is a different matter...

In the big picture, its hard to predict or see this coming. I recall during my MBA days, over 10 years ago, we had big MNCs in the campus who changed their offer (meaning salary) after the recruitment was done. So, this is misconduct. And I recall in IIT, some such companies were blacklisted. However, not everyone take such measures (my B-School didn't for instance).

Coming back to your friend's situation, it is certainly not the best. And I think leaving the company as soon as possible, is the only good option. If the guy is real tough, he might resign due to the conflict of principles.

And this is probably where the role of HR comes in most. The HR in such companies must help the employee get a job elsewhere. Employees wanting to leave are often left fending for themselves... Atleast, this is one good reason for the HR folks to help the guys wanting to leave. In McKinsey, for instance, people leaving the organization are also taken care of. The company tries to ensure that they are properly placed and we know the goodwill this has brought to the brand. Just wanting to say, it helps.

Lastly, when you work for others, you are anyway giving them the reins to your career... So, its not worth fretting about.

Dear All,
This discussion recalls me about my experience,
At the time of discussion they agreed for x amount of salary and joining they asked me they will pay y amount of salary.That point of time I couldn't decide what to do then I discussed with my dear one and they proposed me as an opportunity to prove myself. It was a new setup and the first employee. I proved my self and setup the whole thing in 1 and half year. They Promote me doubled my salary and I got many opportunities and I quit they still remember me and asking to join again.
Take things in a positive manner may Almighty has given an opportunity and something better to prove his/her worth. Believe in destiny and strive for better and rest are not in your hand. This situation will make us hard rock solid.

  • How company's planning and research can go so wrong ? It is very unprofessional to cut the salary of new employee.
  • Company is reducing salary of new employee alone or they are reducing salaries of others also ?
  • Has company reduced the salary of a person responsible for bad planning ? Is he any way penalized ?
  • Has company disclosed all the facts about project lost or revenue lost to new employee ? Is company talking the truth ? Are company's dealings are transparent enough to be believed ?
  • Is company just telling some excuse to reduce the salary of new employee, who by mistake has been offered much higher salary, than what he deserves ?
  • Does company really needs the new employee ? Is he a wrong hire ? Is company making some story to get rid of new employee ?

Thanks Ebbin for actually putting my thoughts into words, i also feel the same, that how can a company decide in 15 days to cut down the salary, it is a clear case of negligence and hiding some important facts from my Friend.
Thanks Vishveshwar, We are hoping the same to happen to this friend of mine also, as he has already resigned from the company, i'm sure he will land up a good job soon. :)
