Hi Pooja,
As you said, since your are more than five years experience in HR as well Legal compliance in personnel. By the way this the right direction which you working now. Now most of the Indian and MNC companies paying very much attention to HR and compliance. But only problem in the HR and Compliance you can’t get immediate leap but it has lots of exposures. Based on that my opinion would be let continue the same as a HR and compliance
and also agree with Bopsi thpughts.

Dear Pooja,
I very much agree with TC. Please note today IR/Personnel is not considered as supporting staff. Whereas HR is considered as supporting staff. Today Personnel/IR is considered as a direct employee i.e directly related to the production. If you see in a staff or board meeting higher management gives utmost importance to the idea or comments of personnel IR incharge. Please note as long as you should not be good in Personnel/IR you will not be good HR manager. All brilliant HR manager has to be good in personnel /IR. so move ahead with your new venture. best of luck/.

Hi Pooja,
The suggestion you get from your friend is quite true. The same has happened to me also. There are no more chances to go up in the management ladder, even after spending so many years. Though you learn a lot in the personnel and admin. but you can not learn all the time.
Everybody want to go up but the chances to up in this field is very rare. However big and reputed group is there, often people in same field work in same position for no. of years. Don't be emotional, be practical. If I have option to go reverse the time, I would not take personnel and Admin but definately opt for HR Field, which is far superior and has more chances to grow up yourself. I think you may have got your answer.

Dear Pooja,
My advice:
Competence is attained by acceptance of challenges.

Valuable Gems are only a few, while stones are in plenty in this world.
Don't forget Indira Nooyi, the CEO of a world giant "Pepsico" is also a woman. Chanda Kochhar, MD & CEO, ICICI Bank Ltd., is also a woman. Both are Indians

Subject - Re: Compliences are better or HR

hii pooja,

in my opinion personnel dept is not like that.in many orga. HR dept is known only becoz of personnel dept.instead of soft skill nothing more requiered in HR dept.if u have realy want to learn something then personnel/IR is best platform.in IR u can learn how to deal with Govt.officials, how to deal with un-educate people, villagers, how to address mob.and the rules and regulation of factories, labour,pf,esi, payment of wages, migrant workers, overtime etc etc.and it is required to be a good HR Proffessional. Now u can see in india top HR proffessional are from PM/IR back ground.yes may be personnel dept do report to HR but that doesnt mean HR is better than IR.in many big org.IR/personnel dept is different from HR dept and their reporting structure are also different.i think IR/personnel people are more knowledgeous, matured, and visionable.and one thing always keep in your mind that every work has equal ethics, values and do always respect wht u are doing & wht u r going to do.

so take it easy.....

dont dwell in the past, neither do look too far ahead, always focus on the present

best of luck for future

bye tc.

Dear Pooja,

The use of word HR has become a fashion these days and used in a limited sense. You cannot separate HR, IR, Personnel, and even Admin. They are all one (except Admin in some aspects) and each industry will have their own way of titling the departments. Personnel & IR is a old way of using and now everyone uses HR & IR or HR & Admin or HR or only IR. These are specialisations as lot of improvements, new concepts have developed over the years in each area treating it as separate. keeping all these aside, what is important is the new challenges, profile improvement and understanding new areas. We are not doing any PhD by sitting at one place and learning one subject. My strong suggestion would be to accept the new assignment, learn the new concepts and areas and that is how you actually climb the ladder and not by sitting in one industry. 5 years is quite enough experience and if you are confident, you can change the job. Imagine a situation wherein your boss never recognises your talents in your organisation, you can never think of climbing the ladder.

Watch yourself and climb the ladder, it may be present organisation and some other, it is only one thing, it is your profession and new challenges.

All the best

Hi Pooja,
You have been in HR and you are still confuse while differentiating HR and Personel, to some extent both are interdependant and precedential to each other let the Administration aside coz this is only section which is different from HR some time peoples percieve they all are same. I would suggest you to join and upgrade your expertise to become a complete proffesional, you must be aware about all the pros and cons of overall HR and personel works, it will do worlds a good for you as you are having 5 years of exposure in HR, please let me know what is your Core Practises in your current role as an HR person to give you a proper dimension wheather you may opt for this opportunity or not.

Hey Pooja
Well let me tell you there are loads of growth in the department
As i being a gal,i handle HR/Admin and IR in the company its amazing to go to the front and handle things and not necessary that you have to report to HR,you can grow the long way rather than the mere HR.
I would say go for it and all the best
