This seems to be a project, first before moving into a consultant and recruit a Project manager, sit with the project sponsor ( if this not your idea) and ask him three question as example.

• what the benefit if we are adjoined with HR international standards on people, company ( transform the benefit into money if possible).

• when you have it put it as benefits move to next step, how long it will take to achieve it and analysis the final picture with the present company situation put it as targets ( as much as possible turn it into money value) for easy comparison.

• Analysis the internal resources to see if any person has the knowledge desire and motivation to be the Project Manager for this project.

by doing this exercise you will determine to go for consulted or to employee a professional to help you in doing it. As an idea it is very beautiful, but from my experience it is long draining process time, money, people with out being fully engaged before going into this process will led to very critical turns, you my employ the best consultant but those visitors and they are constrained with time and profit margin. Therefore,

if you take it on phases as pre-initial ( done by you as PM).

planning- implementation ( you with expert subject matter) phase two.

freeze the benefit and be quo-state this will be your new you, monitored by you.

In terms of scaling up and corporatising your workforce I think you need consultants of the order of Accenture, KPMG who will be best equipped to advise you w.r.t. processes, branding, finance and succession planning. After your processes are set up, you will then need HR Consultants like Mafoi (which by the way has been unfortunately gobbled up by Randstad and the brand name Mafoi has vanished forever!), Stanton Chase, Korn Ferry, Perfman HR and the likes to recruit the most professional talent to work in the company.

A word of advice - Do not use words like 'international standards'. These are meaningless in the context of Indian business. Rather try to develop your business organically using strong leadership, strong local habits and beliefs, passion and ability and do not look to the west for inspiration. The seed of building a world class company already exists within you and your existing team. At the end of the day please remember - nobody knows what works and what doesn't. Consultants may come in and extract millions from you and yet it will not make any difference to your bottomline if the leadership is not right. Good luck!
