It is sad to find people thinking otherwise; YET THEY CLAIM TO BE PATRIOTS !!!
Is not choosing a government for five years MORE IMPORTANT than stopping your business for a day ??
Also remember that your future business shall be affected a lot by the kind of government you choose - A fact endorsed by the masters of Strategic Management.
I do not know what to call such people - who can not be moved by Patriotism, Law-abidance or Plain Business Sense.

Hi Friends, Elections in India being hold by one constitutional Body i.e Election Commission of India. Our Parliament already enacted Representation of People Act 1951 which gives power to Election Commission of India regarding holdings of Election. Now be specific.Sec.153 B of said R.P.Act clealy provide Grant of paid holiday to employees on the day of poll.Said Act also made provision of punishment if any establishment violate the said act and not allow their employee to exercise the right to vote.Even daily wage/Casual workers are also entitled for a holiday and wages on poll day as provided in Sec.153 B of R.P.Act 1951. So friend you should not worry for office but tommorrow you must cast your vote as per your choice and motivate also others to exercise voting right.Prabhat Ranjan

It is not advisable to open the office on the date of election because the whole purpose of declaring holiday (enabling to exercise their franchise) would be defeated. However for some reasons like industry being "continous process" you could atlest grant 2hrs permission either before the start of the shift (during polling time) or at the end enabling them to vote.

Dear Mr.Neeru,
All citizens have got democratic right to cast their vote.If you are facilitating your employee to exercise their democratic right then definately you are obeying the rule and it is also the basic idea of holiday on poll day ,but at the same day if anyone successfully made complain agaist you that despite of Notice of Haryana State Election Commission regarding Holiday on Poll Day your establishment was open as usual then definately you will be in trouble. It will be the matter of evidence that already you have permitted your Employee to cast their vote. You may get relief at later stage.
Any action contarary of Act attract penal action.Prima facie case will be made out if there is any clear cut violation of Rule of law found. So my friend be cautitous and follow Rule.

I would like to add that ELECTION COMMISSION notification is applicable only to LOK SHABAHA / STATE ELECTIONS & NOT FOR local bodies elections.
In that case, mgmt is advised to grant permission to employeed during polling-hours to exercise their franchise.
