Hi,
Yes offices/factories should declared paid holiday the day of polling to caste their vote. This closing is applicable only during the polling hours. if you have any business exigencies or production need to open the Office / factory you can call the employees in night shift also.

Dear All,
We should follow the law not ONLY as a 'law' but also in 'sprit'.
I am adding State Notification issued by Haryana Government for declaring 13th as Paid Holiday, for units situated in HARYANA.

I don't how much productive loss you will get if you are giving off more than three hour's or whole day.
My suggestion.
u have to give off whole day in election period please don't be depend on which type of election going on and If you really want employees to come in office then you can ask them to come as soon as submit their vote. Don't force them to finished it on 3 hours.
Your 3 hours decision will give a wrong Impact of your personality on your employee's. If you want to be good boss then Think from all sides.
Any way decision is yours.

There is no such notification issued, yes govt & PSu's offices have been instructed to shut the shop on polling day and there is a request to close pvt set or give employees proper time so that they can cast their votes..I am sure for Haryana but not very clear on maharashtra or Arunachal Pradesh.
There fore I request all the HR peronels not to get carried away & use the notification in organization & employees best interest..
Cheers !!

I responding to the hope expressed by Roopa Krishnakumar.
I suggest, the establishment should be closed for the whole day and not the half day in order to comply with the notification.

Dear Umesh,
Yesterday we had a meeting with the Labour Commissioner, and he has made it very clear that exemption is given only to continuous manufacturing process and you have to declare a Paid Holiday as per the State Government Notification. You may also note that, you are not allowed to work on weekly off day to compensate for 13th. In case anybody report that you are working on 13th, the Dist.Collector will take stern action laid down under Law.

satish

Hey AnonymousA,
Don't be so rude to the HR Fraternity. We r not sugarcane juice makers.Ultimately we r also a part of the employees. But we being the mediatator betwn the mgmt and employee, we have to look for a win win situation.
And anyways voting would not take more than an hour . The rest of the day is all yours. What I feel is that govt reps should do surprise checks in offices to see how many have actually casted the vote. This will ensure higher turnaround in future.
And overall the least we all can do to build India is vote. So rather than discussing it as a holiday let us promote the importance of voting on that day.
Cheers!!

Yes its mendatory to close offices on 13th Oct. If anyone employer not follow the same then may be the election commission take action against that employer.
But as per my opinion the employer can stop all working process after half a day. Employees can vote in remaining half day. :?: :?:
