My previous organisation had a practice called- Knowledge sharing. As and when a staff member gets an opportunity attend an external training/workshop conducted outside the organiation, he comes back and shares his learning with all /selected target staff. It will be either in a way of lecture/training programme or even, sending a document containing his learning.
We had few checks for this to happed regularly without fail:
1. This knowledge sharing will have some weightage on his annual appraisal score
2. His HOD will sanction his tour expense claim only after the sharing done.
3. He will be sent for another programme only after conducting a knowledge sharing session.
By this practice, we will get the best out of the knowledge he has gained.

Hi
Good topic on move
1) I think we can also start wishing birthdays to employees through notice board and a personalized card and a flower on the employee table.
2) employee can be encouraged to suggest any kind of changes in system/outlook/process/practice on a particular day and best of them can be awarded
3) we may keep track of the time employees coming to office and on a decided day we can give a small gift to the employee who enters first of all (irrespective of cadre)on that day

Usage of Intranet:
1.In my company the best thing is the usage of Intranet to employees. If they have any issues relating to HR they can just click the required path in the intranet and post their quiry, within 24 hours it has to be solved or else it will be escalated to my boss.
2. the whole team will have a 2 hr meeting about the recruitment strategies with the required targets in mind and we compare the same in the next meeting so that we know how much we have implemented our plans and based on that we will review our strategy.
Rgds,
Siva
