I am working in ONGC as a tenure employee. My first tenure ended on 31.12.2004 and present will be ended on 29.01.2009.

In India how sucessful is the tenure employment system? As per the ONGC rule, I (we) can work till 45 years. Even in private firms, they offer regular employment and based on performance one gets promotion and the career growth is also there.

We were getting all the benefits at par with regular employees till 31.12.04 and when the present tenure started ONGC stopped all the benefits and put us on fixed payment. Earlier ONGC was kind to give us the title of P&A Assistant and all of a sudden they converted all Finance, HR & other support people to Field Operators.

How long a person can work with such tension? It affects the individual and the family also.

When I attended some interviews, they all asked the same question, why I want to leave ONGC? When I explained the situation, they wondered.

How can I come out of the stigma of being a field operator in ONGC with a qualification in HRM?

Hope to have some expert comments on the tenure employment and its success in Indian scenario.

Dear Rony.
Tenure Employee is a concept of temporary staffing only, or in other words we can say it is a fixed term employment contract....
It is not a new concept in India, in your situation I can only suggest you to look for a new opportunity, as this concept is not a long term goal...
As your mail is showing that you already spent some years with the organisation, so you need to move really fast else wise your career may suffer...
