Hi
I will give an example.
My wife cooks very well. All praise her for her ability to provide excellent tasty food. She has an excellent skill of Cooking.
One day, after we finished our dinner, few relatives from outstation landed up and there was no cooked food at home. She was in a fix and she requires atleast one hour to prepare anything.No vegetables at home No milk at home. She went to the kitchen called me and asked me what to do. I have no clue but I said wake up my mother, she used to handle such things when we were young.
My mother came, prepared some kitchadi in 10 minutes time, served it hot with pickles and curd and the guest, said they have taken this kind of tasty food anywhere!!
She had the competence of handling a situation.
Skill is knowing what to do and how to do
Competence is knowing what to do, how to do and more importantly when to do.
Remember the story of Karna. He forgets the Mantra when he was about to use the Asthra an Arjuna due to the curse of Parasurama.Forget about the curse. The fact remains that Karna forgets the Mantra when he was supposed to remember That is lack of competence ( I am not suggesting he lacked competence or any controversy here. it is just a situation I am quoting)
Is it clarifying? or confusing!!!
