While what you are saying is true in a general context, many it times it so happens that when one decides definitely what one "can't" do , one decides to focus on what can do or wants to do. When Henri Ford decided for sure that Farming was not for him, he left his father's farm and focussed on his passion which was mechanics which made him what he was.
The so called "can do " attitude has to be used judiciously.
