The maximum hours that an employee may be 'allowed' to work in a week is fixed as 60 hours. This is inclusive of overtime hours for which the company would pay overtime wages at double the average rate of wages. There is no monthly hours of work prescribed but there is a provision under the Factories Act and the Shops and Commercial Establishments Acts of some states that the maximum overtime hours an employee can do in a quarter is 75 hours.
