The policy varies from company to company as there is no mandatory provision in this regard. Many organisations would ask for a medical certificate that you are healthy and not suffering from any communicable disease, others would have full procedure of tests done in a related medical set up. The tests would include routine tests like examination of vision, hearing etc and may test for blood group, even go for stress test etc. If the post is for young graduates the tests will not be rigorous but for the lateral induction for higher management tests it would be more detailed and they would go for HB1AC, full body scanning, ECG, etc.

Pre employment medical check up is mandatory under Factories Act before engagement for any job from Certifying Surgeon. Moreover, as mentioned by KK!HR those are also required and random vary from organization to organization.

To my opinion pre employment medical check up is always better at least to verify the present health condition and to confirm that the person is not suffering from any terminal disease.

Would like to supplement to the explanation given by our learned senior member Mr.KKHR,
pre-employment medical health check up is mandatory; Every organization made it compulsory, after arrival of epidemic Covid-19. But it differs from company to company and also varies from position level to position level. For e.g. recruitment of Welders, Vehicle Drivers and other skilled jobs warrants good eye-sight and hence they (selected candidates) are subject detailed eye-examination. But for managerial candidates, pre-employment medical examination consists of even psychological tests by a qualified psychologist (to assess his behaviour at different situations). In addition to this, they are subject to such tests which measures his BP., Cholesterol, Cardiac health,(ECG), EEG, etc.
