Who can be considered to be an effective faculty for a Diploma and Degree in Sales and Marketing course taking into consideration Experience and not only Educational Qualifications ? Would appreciate a few suggestions.

Dear Kenneth Dias,

You can involve Head Sales or Head Marketing, maybe serving or retired, in teaching the students. They can share their real-life experiences. That will be a boon to the students. However, such people need to have a knack for sharing their experiences. While sharing their experiences, they need to be informed that they should share experience exactly according to the subject content, and there should not be a mismatch of any kind.

Your question was whether to involve a person with experience and not just education qualification. I recommend you hire a person with qualification and experience, both. A person with just a qualification though may be a good teacher may not be able to share experiences from his/her personal life.

Nevertheless, hiring a person with just a qualification is still better compared with a person with experience only. A person with the qualification can read the relevant books, watch the videos, read the articles in the business dailies or magazines and pass them off as his/her own. However, a person without a theoretical background can understand the difference between right and wrong but will not be able to explain why something went correct or incorrect. These people are doers and have learnt things on the go. But their hands-on nature makes them earthy, and this earthiness overshadows their erudition.

I hope that I have explained the difference.

All the best!
