Hello Professionals, I need your valuable advice to handle HR Professional role in a start-up. Currently, I m working as a Plant HR Executive. I joined this company because I thought I can get a good leader and learn many thing & it will give me exposure in various HR fields. Most of the employees working here are not seems to be a professional or known person or relatives of respective team head. Few employees only join through hiring.

On the day my interview and appointment hiring head ask several questions and drawbacks of the HR system in an organization. My HR Head is placed at Head office and I m at Plant to take care of all HR Activities. After joining office I have reviewed all the documents and reported to my reporting HR Head within a week. After reviewing the report his behaviour towards me was not good and he started to ignore me. I have forwarded to him the same ignorance also he has not provided any induction regarding work and not handed over any documents at the plant. If any grievances are reported or permission for any authority has been asked it will be delayed delayed delayed and ignored and no proper HR practices. I am simply wasting my time here as I have only 3hours of daily routine work which i fixed myself to be my routine work. I have received only ignorance and delay on any work. I feel totally guilty of myself being ignored and wastage of time (which I used to read labours laws and megazine).

Dear Professionals, please guide me. In such cases how to tackle the situation.

Hello,

You should first talk to your HR Head and understand the reason for their ignorance. You can talk to other friendly colleagues there who know the history of the company and other members of the HR department. Once you have the complete background of the situation, you will be able to understand the reason for their ignorance. You can then deal with it tactfully. It is not a better idea to displease your immediate bosses in the initial months. Try to sort out the matter with discussion.

Dear member,

Your designation is Plant HR Executive. Do you have dual reporting to Plant Head also? To what extend that person will be able to help you with your HR initiatives? If he is supportive, then you may shoot from his shoulders to bring a positive change. Do anything, but let the orders be issued from the Plant Head under his signature. Should your HR Head take objection, you may tell him to deal with the Plant Head.

Of course, this is a little risky approach, nevertheless, Plant Head always calls the shots, and he is expected to have a whip hand over Head HR. Nevertheless, tread cautiously.

Dear Colleague,

In the absence of any knowledge about business of your company, your role responsibilities, number of workers, supervisors and managers at the plant , it is not possible to offer worthwhile suggestions.

For your frustration , which is understandable, just as your HR boss is responsible so also you too equally are. Neither you nor your boss appears to be clear about your role and what is expected of you.

You need to meet your boss and have candid discussion on this. You also discuss what are the important areas of work you have identified where you can make distinct contribution.

Eyeball to eyeball, frank talk between two of you may pave way to resolve this conflicting situation.
