Dear Gokulnath Arumugam,
You could have given a little more information about your industry, type of product and what type of a Management Trainee (MT) you wanted to induct.
Whether the above information was provided or not, what matters is whether you have prepared a Management Training Programme (MTP) in your company. Recruitment of an MT is a part of the MTP.
Recruitment of the candidate for the MT depends on communication skills, job knowledge etc. A few companies have started laying emphasis on attributes like business acumen or innovative mindset also.
Depending on the size of the company and the number of the departments, the MTP could last for 12 months to 24 months. A poorly designed MTP may not retain the MTs and this could cause harm to the reputation of the company.
To run the MTP successfully, a supporting organisation's culture is also required. Imitating the industry leader to execute the MTP may not work as MT may not like the mismatch in the organisation's culture and the MTP and he/she could abandon in the course between.
In a few companies, the MTs are rotated across the departments. They are given exposure to almost all the departments. After completion of a stint in each department, a test is conducted to assess how much knowledge the MT has gained. The results of the tests are recorded meticulously and if the several MTs are recruited then the "Best MT of year" award is also given to the topper. In a few other companies, MTs are just selected and made to work only in one particular department.
Earlier, I had given a reply to a similar query. You may click here to refer to it.
Final Note: - Recruitment of the MT is fine, however, the freshly passed MBAs or would-be MBAs are smart and could ask you the questions on the MTP also. In such a case, if the HR or any other functional fails to give credible replies then the students of B-school could turn down your offer also. I know 1-2 cases wherein the HR and other functional heads were mauled badly by the students and they had to return with their badly bruised ego. Therefore, be cautious about the institution you choose!
All the best!
