Hi Everybody,
I am Jac and a final year Master Student.
I often have contradictory ideas regarding multi-tasking, which my faulty in the department say is a must in life. But I am of the opinion that multi-tasking should not be done at the expense of quality of the output and we should be given one task at a time and not all at once. they als say that we should learn to work under stress?
What are your opinions regarding multi-tasking, and working under stress?
Kindly respond form experience as well as from theory.
Thank you.

Hi,

As per my view, multi-tasking is necessary. People are sometimes bombarded with so much of work that such people tend to leave the Organisation. If such people have the experience in doing multiple things at one time or doing many things in the shortest period of time, they surely gonna stay in the company for long.

I have seen employees often complaining I have too much of work, that I hardly get time to do any other thing. Multi-tasking simply means doing many things at one time by one person. The best example I saw in a television commercial where a woman served her family (in-laws) break-fast at the breakfast table, gives clothes to husband, prepare tiffins and lunch box for husband and kids. This is a typical example of multi-tasking.

Companies wish not to spend in hiring people but it feels to pay higher salaries so that one employee may be able to do the job of two employees and can play more than one role on the job.

To succeed in multi-taking I would say to rate the priorities of the task, I feel when you work in an Organisation every task in important but some tasks may be urgent. Therefore urgents taks must be completed as soon as possible and other important tasks may be completed depending upon the priority and deadlines.

Dear Friend,
As far as an individual is concerned, in this era of stiff competition ability to perform multiple tasks is a necessity. Even in the cricket teams all over the world, preference is given to all rounders. They are rated above a specialist batsman, bowler, wicket keeper etc.
As far as organisations or companies are concerned, it is the era of core competence. Concentrating on the activity which you can perform better than any organisation and companies and out source the rest of the activities.
Regarding Working under stress, it is very necessary in the present day world. Again am taking an example from cricket. Ability of a player in cricket is measured best when he performs his best at the time of pressure. Michael Bevan of Australia was judged best oneday player because of his ability to perform under stress by rotating strike. Stress have to be taken as routine thing or inevitable thing.
