Promotion is an advancement of an employee in career to the next higher level of hierarchy in the organisation as per the service regulations of the establishment. Since hierarchy is pyramidal in structure, promotion of an employee from lower cadre is always determined by the employer by several factors either individually or in combination which could be broadly classified into two aspects namely seniority and suitability. So, in my opinion, any authorised leave including maternity leave can not adversely affect the promotion of the employee, if she is senior and/or otherwise suitable.
