Hello everyone,i am working in a company which was 3 years old . i joined it 2 month ago and i am new in HR field. actually problem is that company didn't have HR person in it from last 3 years, so now whenever i made any type of policy and rules all employees behaved as i did something against them. Kindly help me to understand from where i should start

Dear Navneet,
After experiencing three years of indocililty, if all of a sudden HR joins and starts rolling out some rules, there will be resistance. This is where most of the start ups fail. In order to cut down the costs, they do not employ HR. Most of them think that "all this happens in the big companies". By the time they realise the importance of HR, it is too late.
Anyway, while bringing change, did you take into confidence the MD of your company? It is not your job to bring in new policy. Your job is only to execute it. Introduction of the new policy and explanation on why it was introduced, is the job of CEO. You could have drafted the policies but you should have rolled out under the signature of MD. Did you do that?

Thanks for reply. actually our CEO is very busy in other works. He didn't come to company on regular basis but there was other sir who worked in place of him. He trusted me and happy with my efforts.

I agree with Mr Divekar. I saw quite a few HR people not paying any attention to even designing basic HR process. Instead they suffer from what I call ' Obfuscated Growth Vision' which means they suffer from knowledge, will to learn, will to think beyond immediate requirement and lack of self growth road map. They work for the day on day to day and table file to table file bases ie inbox mails driven. My suggestion for any HR manager trying to establish a process which was just not existing before, is to be very clear on what he wishes to do, time lines, org suport and ultimate goal of the org. Everything will be driven out of this. He must go slow. Spend time in communicating correctly rather leaving employees to understand everything incorrectly and perceiving unfounded insecurity. Process must be set irrespective of the size of org since everyone looks to grow in future and every org will always have an inbuilt potential for the same. There is also a somewhat similar problem with bigger org where some managers initially assigned with limited role live under a premise that all new and existing process are meant for people with larger responsibility. It is best to start at the right note taking enough time to have a sound and well crafted established processes rather than wasting too much time and efforts in frequent mid course corrections.

Can someone throw some light on right of parents to the CCTV footage of school where their wards are studying
From India, Karol Bagh
Dear Col SR Choudhary,
Now a days CCTV cameras are installed in the school premises as a part of the security. Occasionally there are sexual assaults on girls or teachers beat the students mercilessly. Last but not the least, camera also records fights between/among the students. CCTV captures this violence. CCTV cameras also acts as deterrence to the school staff or teachers for their excess behaviour. Therefore, CCTV cameras are installed primarily for the smooth administration of the school.
Now coming to your query. Why you wish to have access to the CCTV footage? Is your request case specific or you wish to have access on ongoing basis? Did you make request to the school authorities? If yes, then what is their take?
Please clarify on your query further.

This was a question in a forum. Anyway I will state two situations.
Situation 1-- Parents ask for the footage of two particular periods taken by a particular teacher of math.
Situation 2-- Parents gave a packet of chocolates to the kid on her birthday for distribution amongst to her class mates. Teacher takes the packet home.
My question was and is very simple. Do the parents have a right to ask footage in such situations.
