Hello,
I am from the HR department in a reputed company in Kolkata. Recently I am facing problems with employees who are remaining absent without any prior intimation. Such actions are really disturbing the working environment and production. Can anyone give a solution to get out of such a scenario? Is there a way to bind employees legally? Can we take legal actions against employees for not responding to phone calls or emails after their unapproved absence?

Dear Dipkumar,
If you are from HR Department in a reputed company in Kolkata and if you are beset with the problem of employee absenteeism then it goes on to show that company's repute means nothing to the employees. Probably your management was only interested in customer satisfaction, brand promotion, attracting investors etc. For them employee satisfaction is not important.
Such problems are common across the industries. Have you done analysis of the absenteeism? If yes, then on what parameters? Please check my following reply to the previous post:

In the above post, I have given causes for employee absenteeism also. You need to fix those causes first. Taking legal action is akin to treating symptoms. Over a period of time this formula also will not work.

Hello Dipak you can take action on disciplinary matter. without intimation remaining absent is indisciplinary cause.
On my point of view you have to first find the actual reason why they are doing like this & as per try to solve it.

You may take suitable disciplinary proceedings against the employee subject to the certified standing orders of our company, if the employee is a workmen covered under the same. Other cases you can take proper disciplinary proceedings in-compliance with the natural justice.
