Hello HRs,

I need your help. Could you please guide me what should I do in below scenario?

Background:

I am 2009 passout engineer, and in 2008 itself, I was selected on-campus for Comapny A. Company A gave me joining month as Sept'10. I do not had anything to do between July'2009 and Sept'10, so I joined a local company S.

In company S, I was getting salary in Cash, and also I did not had any pf account or Form-16. I left this job in Aug'10 and joined company A in Sept'10 as fresher. Company A did not considered my previous employment as offer was issued for fresher employee . I spent 2 yrs in Comapny A and joined company P.

Company P did all my previous employment verification. They also called company S to check whether I was working there or not. Comapny S told them that I was working there for mentioned period. Company P counted my previous experience and issued the offer letter.

Even during this period I was selected for Company Z, and from company Z, they did external vendor verification to check my previous employment, WHICH I WAS CLEARED.

Issue:

Now my first company, S, is closed. Now there is no official thing to verify whether I was working there or not. I contacted company S, and they told me that I can give their contact details and they will confirm that I was working there.

I have offer letter, relieving letter and experience letter from Comapny S. Even I have saraly slip of cash payment for all the months, but I do not have any bank statement or Form 16, which can prove I was working on Company S.

So my question is :

1. Whether new company would accept my first employement?

2. What should I do in case of background verification?

3. Should I dicuss this issue with HR in HR round of interview?

4. Should I drop my first company experince?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

I am not able to edit above post: Edit: (pragraph of ISSUE details) I contacted owner of company S, and he told me that I can give his contact details and he will confirm that I was working there.

Ravi144: So where’s the issue now? Share the contact details of the Company S and be honest. I think the HR community is now open to hiring from failed/shutdown organizations.

Hi TALENTSORCERER,
Thanks a lot for your reply and suggestion.
My concern is : If I tell HR that my first company is closed and if they ask me for bank statement and form-16, then I would NOT be in problem?
My salary was only Rs. 12,000 so I was not eligible for income tax, and I was not much aware of the benefits of having bank statement and form-16 to prove my employment.
Actually my concern is combination of CLOSED COMPANY + CASH PAYMENT (salary slip), which can readily be assumed as fake experience.
I can tell the HR that Compay P(my current organization) had done the background verification and counted my Company S experience, but would they accept my argument?
I want to take extra precaution as this mess could ruin my career.
Could you please guide?

~Ravi

Ravi - Tell them the truth. Here's the representation of facts:
1) You joined your 1st firm - got payment in cash.
2) You quit and joined Company P - they conducted a reference check (did they? If yes, they'll have verification records)
3) 1st firm closed down - you can offer the firm's owner's contact information for them to validate.
All hinges on if Company P did conduct a reference check ? Because if they did, then they will have verification records and you can request for a copy (not mandatory they will hand it over, but you can always request for one)
Hope this helps.

Hi talentsorcerer,
Thanks a lot for your help and suggestion.
Yes, company P did the verification.
Your suggestion would definitely help. Now I am in better position to discuss this issue with HR.

Ravi,
Going by your narration, there appears no drawbacks on your side. No one will find fault with you for a closed co. S and as you said you got paid in cash and again it's not your fault. So long as you don't misrepresent facts you need not fear. Since you got your relieving letter and other documents it should suffice.
All the best.
