I need some specification on "overlapping of Shift " as per Factory Act. 5-15 minutes overlapping of shift is permissible under Factory Act or not.
Kindly help on this issue.

Dear Ankur: As a general rule, the overlapping of shifts is not allowed. See Section 58 of the Factories Act 1948 - Prohibition of overlapping Shifts. However as per Section 65, the Chief Inspector of Factories for your state has the power to pass exempting order. You will have to make out a strong case for being granted relaxation. But without such an order please do not have overlapping shifts otherwise you are sure to be penalised under the Act. KK
