Dear Sirs,
As we are all know that the contract workers are playing key role in every industry and their strength is more, comparatively with permanent workers. To have better relation with contractor workers, can you suggest any HR initiatives for the improvement of ownership and attachment?

Contract workers act as auxiliary pillars to a company's workforce. Review their performance, appreciate their good moves and encourage them to perform better. Find out their abilities and assign tasks accordingly. This prompts them to contribute more. You would be hailed as an employer for identifying their contribution and rewarding it it suitably, though of less significance. Stints with contract workers may be a short lived glory but what stays on and is carried over time with both the employer and the employee makes a difference.

Dear Giri,
There are various ways of recognination for Contractual manpower and if your realy wants to increase their productivity you have to appreciate their efforts, skills, knowledge & dedication towards their work. Ways of appriciation are : -
1. Employee of the Week/ Month/ Quarter/ Year (Based on their production output)
2. Guru of the Week/ Month/ Quarter/ Year (for those whoever utilised their knowledge to upgrade the process)
3. Employee of the Week/ Month/ Quarter/ Year (Based on Attendance).
4. Employee of the Week/ Month/ Quarter/ Year (Based on self driven/ independant/ etc.
Similiarly there would be various area where you can appreciate them they feel motivated, considering your organisation setup/ process.

Hello Giri
No doubt contract workers perform a great supportive function to the mainline operations but in law they are treated as workmen of the contractor but not that of the principal employer. While your concern for maintaining good relations with contract workers is appreciated, you need to remember that what you do to please them shall not stand as evidence that you are their employer.

Dear Giri,
As said by the Mr. Saikumar, the Principal employer should not directly do anything to the contract workers. If you want to do anything then you can provide them good family accommodation (duly separated from staff accommodation), subsidy in school for their wards (if you a letter to the school as the worker is engaged by the subcontractor who gives services to your company, then the school/education institution will give the seat on free or subsidized rate and they will claim directly from your company) etc. If you give some direct benefits to the workers then it may lead them to prove the employer-employee relations between you and the contractor workers. So be cautious while giving the benefits to the contractor workers.
