Dear Shivaji,
First of all understand that HR is not a line function. If it is manufacturing Production is line, in IT or ITES timely finishing of projects, in Banks customer service, in Railways the running on time of trains etc are the line functions and your job is to support and align your role for the success of line.
Read Labor laws and people behavior. Learn to differ from boss and keep him informed of the environment for him to take right decision. There are many more. You may read some of my blogs for more information and ideas. Welcome to ask me also.
