Hello Everyone,

I am a MBA HR from lucknow university & got campus placement in an fmcg industry in Up east. My job profile is the same as i've always wanted i.e. of HR GENERALIST. But gradually i am given to understand that although it is a good job yet somewhere i am not able to learn as i thought before taking the job.

The work is quite typical, where everybody in the organisation thinks that Hr is only good for recruitment. But i have no major interest in Recruitment but Performance management & training which i am not able to do because of the typical mindset of the top management. Even My salary package is not that good.

While thinking over all these points i find that somewhere my efficiency is going down & i am terrified that my career will get stagnant.

I request u all my seniors, kindly provide me solutions for this as i am having really hard time thinking over this.

Regards

Zufar Jamal,
You have well written your career problem and it is clearly seem that you know what your career plans are and what you want to seek at your career path. Start searching new job according to your preference and once you get it, leave the current job. Do not forget to tell your potential employer, the whole thing you wrote in your query, in interview.

Well, it looks you have accepted the offer without going through or knowing the job description in detail and that's why you are facing such problem. Even some companies don't put the detailed JD and in that case you need to ask what exactly be your profile and job for the post you have applied or selected and based on the same you decide to accept or reject the offer.
However, think again what exactly you want and choose and apply carefully for the jobs only that fulfills your need.

Thankyou so much for your valuable reply. I really appreciate it.
But the thing is, I'm not handling what i want to & i am not getting any jobs in that regard. the problem i am having is that if I'll be working on this for so long i might get stuck with the current profile & get offers from the same profile only. My question remains whether i should leave & search for the profile i want or i should continue with same. Because sometimes it gets so irritating & i do lack confidence at times too that leads to decline in my performance.
I would really appreciate if u can help me with the same.

Hi Zufar Jamal,
As you started your career just now I would suggest that you should stay back for at least one year in the initial company. Since, it is your favorite profile and it's your first job don't think too much just learn whatever you can learn in this company for the next 6 months and then give proper notice before leaving the company. It is our professional ethic to do every thing in a proper way.
Once you complete 1 year in the company then your experience will counts. Especially,HR profiles highly demanding experience. Please don't take wrong decision and step out from the organization.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your Valuable reply.
As I have mentioned earlier i haven't done MBA from a very good B-School as far as HR is concerned. this was the only vacancy that came in my way through my college apart from consultancies. I didn't had other options at that point of time. but as the time is passing i am not getting any clear answers coming in my way about my current position bcoz i don't want to get stuck into this profile. & by all these things somewhere my energy, enthusiasm, confidence is not the same as i have started my career with.

Hello Zufar

Look for the following options :

1) Is it possible for you to move laterally to training and performance mangement functions in your present organisation if you show initiative. If so, try this option to gain exposure in other HR functions.

2) Some times the companies have the policy to deploy freshers in recruitment and after some time, they deploy them on other jobs since recruitment too one of the HR functions. Please go through the company's policy and their on boarding process. If it is so, you may regret leaving the job latter.

3) Be sure about the reason for job change over. Is it really the fear of being stuck in the current profile or the feeling of being underpaid since you are complaining of low package? Please be infrormed that even for a fresher, the package is comemnsurate with the reputaion of the college, the potential of the candiadte and the undersatnding of HR concepts. In the initial stages of your career, the emphasis shall be on learning skills. Money will follow latter.

4) Even in recruitment there is lot to be learnt ? For example, have you understood what is talent and how to identify it? Because these are the questions you are likely encountered in interviews for other functions of HR which you are targetting as the interview panel may want to know that you hae aptitude for learning.

5) After thourough analysis only, you sahll take a call on job switch.

Hi,
Zufar,Your problem is not very big as you need to change, you can learn so many things from your company as management don't know about Hr system,so you will not be having more pressure.learn the basic system highlight your points in your resume so that recruiters will catch your resume & you will get your dream job very soon.Being fresher you got a hr job which is very much difficult now days. You are working in manufacturing & branded company be there learn the things & don't leave till you don't get good job.

Dear Brother,
My advise is that this is the starting of your career be stick to your current assignments. Try to learn from the new job as much as you can. All companies does not let the fresher to handle all kind of hr assignments. if you have been given the assignment of recruitment, learn it correctly that will help you out to excel your career in future. You cann't underestimate any job as every job brings some learnings along with it. Don't get frustrated try hard to grip it.
Best regards
