Maternity Benefit for confinement/pregnancy is payable for three months, which is extendable by further one month on medical advice at the rate of full wage subject to contribution for 70 days in the preceding year.

The further 'one month ' is not actually extension.It is allowed only if the women is suffering from any diseases arising out of delivery.70 days contribution is during the period of two consecutive contribution period preceding the ED of delivery ,not exactly during the preceding year.This is the condition under ESI scheme.Under MB Act the condition is ,80 days of working under the employer during the 12 months immediately preceding the date of her expected delivery.

Its not 3 months.....its 12 weeks in case of confinement and 6 weeks in case of mis carriage...... further now a days one can see their eligibility criteria without any hurdles/passwords by visiting the Insured Persons web link: ESIC: Portal Application
