I am holding a job in a govt. undertaking company. I hav completed my BE in Electrical and now wishes to complete my MBA. I wanted to join Distance MBA programme offered the IGNOU. While discussing with my brother he said that Distance MBA program are valued low as compared to the full time MBA. is it true. Is there a good chance of getteing a good job after completing distance MBA in IGNOU.

Since you are a working professional a distance MBA will add to your qualification a lot since you gain job experience while you learn. You can consider doing an MBA online that lets you to work full time and attend online classes up to your convenience. Online MBA have gained wide acceptance these days. I accept that Distance Study has less value than Regular and full time study but still this is more valuable for candidates who are working professionals and willing to continue their study or attain higher education.
Second, Mr Jamesdbrma, I would like to say that it depends unto you, how much time you can spare for your study and put your effort in this regard. Do not forget hard work always pays no matter in what regard but always.
There are number of people who have studied correspondently and well established in market today, and many of them are top professionals in Industry. The same you can do if you have strong interest and ready to put forward your sincere effort.
On the same topic (Correspondence Study), I also have discussed with many member/senior and experts in past and again today, I want to convey that one must have positive thinking and approach with it. We can’t deny the value of full time study but the student/candidate are working and studying correspondence, point need to be noted, are more efficient and able to take a good position/are occupied in market due respect to their practical knowledge, understanding and experience.
Mr Jamesdbrma, I would suggest you to please go ahead and do study hard. Please do not allow negative thinking, responses to get affected your decision.
Every one has different experience and perception and knowledge, and if correspondence study has no value, than why it is being offered by all Universities even the worlds top ranking Universities are offering ..why?? that you have to understand why and need to be step ahead.

I think one of the most basic thing all of us are missing is James is already working in Government organization. One more thing which James had not clarified is is he looking for option of leaving government job and joining private sector immediately after completing his MBA.
One will ask how it makes the difference?
In Government organization if he takes approval form his department for doing MBA in Distance education or full-time( only from AICTE or UGC approved Institute) he will be able to claim for increment/promotion benefit.
And
If he is planning for immediately shifting into private sector the total weightage will be based on his past experience what kind of job profile he had handled. he will not be able to get benefit of this MBA he will be considered as fresher with some industrial exposer.
And
If he continues with his current organization for some period and handles the roles and responsibility after some years his MBA will definelty give him better value irrespective of Distance or Full-time.
I would also like to bring to all my friends notice that some reputed institutes which offer degrees like Executive MBA or PGDM(equiv to MBA) for experienced professionals in part-time and gave heavy placement packages after completion of course in reputed private sector corporate's.
It is upto Mr James to decide what is his goal and what he want to achieve after doing MBA.

I would like to add that doing course from any method more important is that how muich knowledge /command over the subject count. People comes to me for interview with various degree but I see they have just passed the examination but hardly know about the subject.

I fully agree with Indu. Functional knowledge is the most important thing.

If he applies for departmental approval for doing certain course he will be considered for departmental transfer for utilization of skill. It depends on his senior's approval for deputation in other department.

As long as the college or university has the appropriate accreditation, there should be no difference whether you obtain the MBA through on-campus, online, or distance learning. But make sure the institution has a regional accreditation. With a regional accreditation you can be assured the coursework and degree you complete will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers.

You can certainly opt for distance MBA. As you are a working professional, distance learning MBA or PGDM courses will help with little investment you get better. Working and learning in same stream will always help you rather than just taking theoretical knowledge.
