Is PT calculated on Gross salary or Net salary. If its not Gross salary will it be fixed? Kindly help me.
From India, Hyderabad
Dear Ms. Avanthig,
The Professional Tax is calculated on the Gross Salary. The period of remittance is monthly as for Andhra Pradesh its 15th of every subsequent month. The slabs are categorized as follows --
0-5000 - 0
5001- 6000 - 60
6001 - 10000 - 80
10001 - 15000 - 100
15001 - 20000 - 150
20001 - 500000000 - 200

Dear Mr. Balvant Dodiya, The slab that you’re currently following is accurate and the due date is the last date of subsequent month.

Dear Ma'am,
Thank you, for your valuable reply..
Then, PT slab is depends at state level??
One more confusion is if ESIC is applicable somewhere as we are into construction filed will we have to deduct PT as per that state??
We have our one site situated in mumbai where esic applies then will i have to deduct pt & submit to concerned authority??
Thanking you,
Balvant Dodiya

Once an area is covered under ESI then compulsorily the Employer has to register & follow the same. PT is calculated on total gross salary of six months. PT tax can be paid twice in a year - once in September and during March. The Professional Tax rate differs from state to state.

Awaiting for ur reply..
Thanking you,

To be more precise and clarify it to the core, PT is a tax exempted portion which is deducted from the employee and ESI is employee insurance related, both employee and employer will contribute. Both are different yet both are to be paid. Is still there any perplexity for your query?

Dear Balwant,
PT & ESIC both are different aspects, if your area is covered under ESIC then employer has to register and follow the same.
In Gujarat you have to deduct PT on Gross Salary & deposit the same at your nearest City Civic Center (Municipal Corporation) by 15th of every subsequent Month or Interest is charged @18% PA.
For Further details contact your nearest city Civic Center.
PT slabs are as under
0 to 2999 = zero
3000 to 5999= 20
6000 to 8999=80
9000 to 11999=150
12000 and above=200
