Hello sir/ madam,
I am a MBA in HR fresher. i had done my graduation in hotel management. recently i had applied for the job of a HR executive in a hotel. I had been interviewed and selected by the hotel. but the problem is that they are telling me to join front office dept.(as i had specialized in front office dept. in my hotel management). I told them that my interest is in HR but they told that at this time there is no vacancy for HR, when there will be vacancy I will be shifted to HR dept.should I join?

Hello Vicky. you should take a call by yourself based on the factors like how reputed the hotel is and how much sincere they are in their promise more so in the context of the fact that they have interviewed you for the post of HR - Executive but assigned you to the front office without even putting you on prior notice of the same and the repuattion of the hotel in relieving emloyees if you want to leave in future for thebetter.

Hi Vicky,

First, list down plethors of factors contributing to your situation like:

- A career in your area of specialization in any industry

- A career in any field related to your graduation subject

- Any profile in Only brand name

- Strong profile in a brand name ...etc....

Having listed down such factors , put each factor in a PROS or CON column and start analyzing their weightage acc to your expectation and eventually you will realise your objective in life which will, in turn lead you to start working towards it.

Also, I would advice you to go with the same profile you had applied for (i.e HR) as you had mastered that subject during your post graduation and is fresh in your mind too however, it is upto you to decide whether at this time, when you are a fresher, you want a strong profile or a brand name as you might not get both at the same time but if you choose your profile over the brand name today and stick to it for long until you get even better options, you may end working in "your preferred brand" in the same specialization of yours (i.e HR) at a better designation and with great responsibilites and as you would have gained some extra certifications and improved your skills by then.

In case, you accept the front office job today in whichever hotel ,there is an equal possibilty that you may/may not be eligible for HR vacancies due to some internal policies which might not favor your experince background,in the same organization in future as a result of which you may not be willing to continue and spoil your preferred field and experience too.

Please be extra cautious to take any step forward as you have just finished your post graduation and quite new to the corporate industry too and hence will be stepping in as a fresher so any wrong move may result in dissappointment.

All the best!!

Thanks

Hi,
If you read my thread properly, i have clearly mentioned that you have to first decide your goal and then analyze their pros and cons accordingly to make a final decision.
In case you are looking out for a job out of town, your expectations and objective change acc to your situation, hence, when i suggest you to compute all contributuing factors against your exoectations, you will automatically come out with the desired results.
Thanks
