Hi,
I am working as an HR executive at a private IT firm in Kerala with an employee strength of 40.
I need some clarifications regarding the provision of clubbing leaves.
For example, if friday is a holiday and the following saturday is a working day and ofcourse as normal the sunday after it is a usual holiday as in all companies. So in such an instance there is a practice found among my employees to take an off on saturday so that they get 3 days of consecutive leave.
I would like to know if there are any law in India to discourage such clubbed leaves. Or could you suggest a good leave policy to discourage this practice which would not have any legal contradictions.
One policy we had in mind was to deduct salary for 2 days taking into account the leave for saturday and a loss of pay for sunday eventhough sunday being a weekend holiday. Is there any law in India that restricts my organisation from implementing this policy.
Kindly get back to me on this issue as soon as

Hi Devika,
Clubbing leaves are based on the organizational policy and not to do with Labour Law. When framing a leave policy, we have to consider clubbing PL/CL as prefix or suffix. You can as well re-frame the leave policy and announce that. Deducting salary abruptly for an employee for taking leaves on weekends are considered unethical and unprofessional.
First of all have a leave planner circulated to all employees asking them to plan their leaves for one calendar year/fiscal year. Only "Sick Leaves" are allowed to take with haddock information. It is all the way you put the policy across. Good luck!
