Integrity

Integrity means alignment of words and actions with inner values. It means sticking to these values even when an alternative path may be easier or more advantageous.

A leader with integrity can be trusted and will be admired for sticking to strong values. They also act as a powerful model for people to copy, thus building an entire organization with powerful and effective cultural values.

Dedication

Dedication means spending whatever time and energy on a task is required to get the job done, rather than giving it whatever time you have available.

The work of most leadership positions is not something to do 'if time'. It means giving your whole self to the task, dedicating yourself to success and to leading others with you.

Magnanimity

A magnanimous person gives credit where it is due. It also means being gracious in defeat and allowing others who are defeated to retain their dignity.

Magnanimity in leadership includes crediting the people with success and accepting personal responsibility for failures.

Humility

Humility is the opposite of arrogance and narcissism. It means recognizing that you are not inherently superior to others and consequently that they are not inferior to you. It does not mean diminishing yourself, nor does it mean exalting yourself.

Humble leaders do not debase themselves, neither falsely nor due to low self-esteem. They simply recognize all people as equal in value and know that their position does not make them a god.

Openness

Openness means being able to listen to ideas that are outside one's current mental models, being able to suspend judgement until after one has heard someone else's ideas.

An open leader listens to their people without trying to shut them down early, which at least demonstrates care and builds trust. Openness also treats other ideas as potentially better than one's own ideas. In the uncertain world of new territory, being able to openly consider alternatives is an important skill.

Creativity

Creativity means thinking differently, being able to get outside the box and take a new and different viewpoint on things.

For a leader to be able to see a new future towards which they will lead their followers, creativity provides the ability to think differently and see things that others have not seen, and thus giving reason for followers to follow.

I strongly believe that true leaders are born with the required traits.People wanting to get trained in leadership can maybe go for workshops & in due time manipulate their personalities to exhibit leadership;however inherent traits are never dead;they just lie dormant & surface whenever there is any weak moment.
Moreover, its more important to realize that leaders go through a lot of personal sacrifices in order to keep the team marching. Most people going through leadership workshops learn the qualities of leadership, even start to practise it, but bog down when it comes to personal sacrifices & team prioritization.
Well, thats my viewpoint. Let me know if you think otherwise. :D

hai bhavana..

I have a small question in store for you..

Have you seen any real leader in past decade??

In my view now there are no leaders..Leaders are not born They are made by people..

You are saying that they are sacrificing in marching on, But what they really doing is that people are sacrificing themselves in electing a leader...

All the leaders on view now-a-days are quite selfish..

" They are Wise , But Other Wise "...

" They sacrifice , But they refers to poor , innocent citizens and not leaders "

The one who is strong financially, has got manpower behind him, ruling the country...Thats the tradition India is following..Look the best example is..

Well , I hail from Andhra Pradesh. Our CM is Dr.Y.S RajaSekhar Reddy from Congress party..He is in our state just weekly twice or thrice..remaining days he stays i Delhi.saying that , meeitn with Sonia Gandhi..How is Sonia Gandhi Related to Andhra???The reason is Just of personal favours of CM..he cannot take any decison on his ownfeet..always rings Sonia and asks her..madam what to do??/

In the press meet, well frnds..We have been granted permission from Soniaji to have our bath..so i now here by declare to all members of AndhrapradesH o have their bath,lunch.....

Its quite funny these politics and leaders are Big comedians, making fun out of citizens life.....

You want to add anything??

Just want to say that that was exactly what I was trying to say. Leaders are not made they are born.
Can you actually name a leader( political or professional) wha truely & genuinely came up as a leader after going through a leadership workshop???
All leaders have had the trait of effective leadership, which ofcourse comprises of all the elements mentioned in workshops. Just that we note the traits of natural leaders & try to develop workshops around them ---- to create leaders. It is like trying to give babysoft skin to a woman of 50- which can be artificial but never natural.
thanks & regards.

THIS IS A LOVELY CONTRIBUTION.
WE ALL ARE LEADERS IN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER - AT HOME, IN PUT PLACES OR WORSHIP, IN OUR COMMUNITY, ETC.
WE SHOULD ALL IMBIBE THESE QUALITIES TO BE GREAT LEADERS SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A GREAT WORLD AS A WHOLE

Hi,

It is incorrect to say that leaders are born and not made. It is also not true that leadership workshops would transform you into a leader. Being a good leader is a result of years and years of imbibing the right qualities till it becomes a part of you. Some of these qualities are picked up from your childhood experiences - your parents, teachers, friends, seniors, etc.

There are some great world leaders who still believe they have a long way to go before saying that they have learnt everything about leadership.

My advice is - try to pick up some good quality or the other from the people you come across (who you think are good leaders) and practice these in your daily life. Carry on with this till it becomes second nature to you. Also it is good to go through some Biographies of great leaders and it would give you a good insight into their lives and experiences.

In the end, I would like to reiterate that leadership is a result of years and years of toil and certainly the people around you and experiences make a big difference in bringing about this transformation.

Dear Mr hanuma,
I strogly objecting your verdict on Dr. YSR , CM. because here the debate is on 'LEADERSHIP'. Here as party issue is concern the party is Congress Party which is having a leader. The party is Nation wide so their party leader is the pathfinder of the volunteers. So Dr.YSR is a CM ofcourse he is also one of the Volunteer and he belongs from the origin from the A.P. Accordingly the people of A.P is elected as their main Chief Volunteer of congress party of A.P. So the Chief may concer with their Leader of their party every time about the developments in his reagion. So its obvious to pointed out for every time he is discussed their leader...nothing wrong init. If it is a regional party the leader is always be in that region, so every voltaire is infront of him itself so they need not go further.

There are more leader positions than born-to lead people ---- >leading shall be taught and learnt
The six qualities are nice but there are tons of studies on leadership abilities, personal traits.
Without scientific proof this is rather an essay or an opinion on leader qualities.

Dear Bhavna,
Genetic determination is difficult to change indeed, but not impossible.
But these things can certainly be learnt. This is what I call determination emerging out of our awareness.
Some problem, some force of circumstance, some tragedy and genuine humility can teach one any and every thing.
And with practice, anyone can produce rabbits out of a hat at will.
