Dear all
We have one 12 T hydra from the manufacturer of Escort. There is no over hoist limit switch in hydra but over load alarm is in place. Driver arguing that there is no overload limit switch in the equipment by default and not available in 12t model. Also he is defending that no need of over hoist alarm in this equipment.
Now i would like to know from our friends whose are working in India.
1. Is there same issue in your project?
2. If so then what action have you taken?
3. Is there any legal requirement stating compulsory of over hoist limit switch in hydra crane?
Pls come forward and share your experience or advise how to tackle this issue.
Thanks
Vijay

Dear Vijay
It's really a practical problem you have bring to discuss... Let's go point by point:
1. The operator defending that no need of over hoist alarm in this equipment:
This is a practical problem. The hydra's are coming with a Hook over hoist Alarm... But normally what the people are doing is that they are disabling this alarm as preference giving to keep the hook just touch to the boom to avoid swaying when the hydra is moving... When compare to crane's hook, the hydra's hook is less in weight and as we are attaching the crane hook to it's body, we are not able to do the same in hydra... So preference giving to detach/deactivate this alarm or else it will blow all the time... May be due to this the operator is defending, we may even allow him to do so if you able to go for the below mentioned SLI device...
2. Is there same issue in your project?
Yes. Hydra toppling is one of the main accidents in industry. This mainly happening when using two hydra for shifting long material or heavy material.. When trying to lift with side position.... Due to constraint in space, etc... In construction lot many chances of hydra incident if not take required precautions...
3. If so then what action have you taken?
We have installed Safe Load Indicators in all our Hydras... You can fix it in any hydra even though the same not comes with a company fitted one... Go through the attached detailed pdf file regarding the same and our own site photograph of implementation of the same... If any more input you need regarding this do let me know...
Apart from the above we have made Run Over Protection in all the Hydra's... This will give protection from run over the hydra over men in case of incident... Attached photo of the same also for reference...
4. Is there any legal requirement stating compulsory of over hoist limit switch in hydra crane?
As per my knowledge no such legal requirement for Hydra... This is our own internal safety standards leads to implement the SLI in hydra...
Any further input you want regarding this do let me know...

Hello Dilip,
I have gone through the PPt you have shared as well as the WYLIE SMART literature. I have some queries related to the new generation Hydra which are launched with the Operator cabin in front. Like TRX 1550 of escorts. The day we have started using these hydra at our operating site, we are facing lot many issues related to the toppling. And that too when only one hydra is deployed to complete the job. Do you have any such observation related to this model. Kinldy share.
Also let me know that how effective is this system of Wylie works in terms of safety in hydra operation. How much is the tentative cost of installing this unit.
